| Who is making them? Where can I buy them? Thanks John |
|
A-TACs ACUs are available directly from Propper, if that'll do for you: https://www.epropper.com/products/38/category/49/ACU%20Coat.htm |

No Large/Regulars FYI |

Damn it. Figures. Hey you guys did the interview with the developers of A-TACS where they said they had a woodland and winter coloration planned. Any updates on that or ETA known? What's the intel? Also general question for everyone here: Any idea if Mayflower will do their gear in A-TACS? Also I thought they figured out a way to print the pattern on Velcro? |

The A-TACS is only only available in 65/35 Poly/Cotton. Regular ACU's are 50/50 Nylon/Cotton. How much of a difference does this make? I seem to recall that the Poly/Cotton fabric it too visible under night vision or in the NIR spectrum, which is why the military requires the 50/50 Ny/Co fabric. But then I also seem to recall that the 65/35 Poly/Cotton 'Battle Rip' that they are selling is supposed to be NIR compliant. Can anyone clear this up for me? What are the differences between the fabrics, and does it really matter in terms of performance, comfort, durability, etc? -K |

They are not NIR Compliant got my pants the other day. Here is the picture of my pants I got in last week from PredatorBDU. The tag says NIR with a big Slash through it and says Does not have Near Infrared. The same tag is on my hat. I check with them and they say is for all ACU items sold to the public.

A note on the ATACS Propper quality, at first impression these are in line with other Propper products made in the Dominican Republic. We will see what happens after a couple washes, the last Propper pants also made in the D R that I had started loosing belt loops, buttons and pocket liners after 2 washes. The ATACS material is soft to the touch but still sort of stiff, Anyone remember the old Propper Tiger Stripes that never softened no matter how many times you washed them. These are close to that.
I think other than the newness factor, $60 is a bit much for for a mainly poly fabric. YMMV. |

Quoted: So this ATACS is the new multicam huh? I've never seen a picture of it in any vegitation, just rocks, sand, and urban. I would imagine it would be as useful as ACUs anywhere there are trees. Anyone have the scoop on this stuff? The lack of NIR is disconcerning. The fact that the webbing just looks "off" to me gives me pause. ITSTactical.com has an audio interview with the designers/inventors of A-TACS. They claim that they are working on a woodland coloration and winter coloration of A-TACS. I think it's clear that A-TACS is for arid areas not for green environments. I'm in the Northern US so not much Arid areas here and I'm waiting on their woodland. |

On the NIR comment: I checked with the guys I bought mine from and they told me that there are not plans yet, but if the demand is there that it is a possibility. Especially if Spec ops pick up on the pattern. They pointed me to these new photos today: atacs desert photos

| The issue with NIR compliance is that it is the government sets the specs for fabric with NIR technology. Because none of the branches currently use A-TACS, there is no "technical" spec that has been established. Can fabric with NIR technology be produced by fabric mills? Probably but who's going to buy it if they don't know what the government requires? |
| This and why do a full run for general consumers if they can just run small batches when contracts call for it. Obviously they got the material with NIR, so it is just a matter of someone asking to use the fabric in a manner that is needed. Special Forces are testing it, so perhaps they may be the first to request this Spec. |

Finally got mine in. I will get some better pics this weekend after the new camera arraives. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/jinx667/ATACS001.jpg Where did you get the pouches and carrier? I only see pants, jacket, and boonie for sale on the Propper site. The chest rig is a TAG Marine Gladiator. The Admin pouch is a one-off ZULU CAOS. The mag pouches are OC Tactical. |
