Hey guys, I'm putting together my first personally owned vest. I saw the thread a few days ago of the Marine suggesting the low priced vest he was issued at a training. I bought it and am very pleased with it so far. Now, I need to start putting it together. Magazines will most likely be PMags and I'm thinking of switching from a SIG P229 to a S&W M&P9.
I intend to carry some EMT gear on it as well as handcuffs/flexcuffs. What I would like to know is what brands are pretty good. I'd like to get as much of my gear as possible in Coyote Brown. The vest is that khaki color, but oh well. So I'm specifically looking for opinions of good quality brands as well as recommendations of types of pouches to get. Thanks, |

For plate carriers, H-Harnesses and chest rigs I am really partial to Eagle Industries and Esstac gear, top quality stuff but pricey. For bags, packs and weapon cases Eagle and U.S. Grunt Gear. For individaul pouches I really like Emdom USA stuff, High quality and innovative and again, U.S. Grunt Gear. U.S. Grunt Gear is some of the best quality stuff that you will find, his stuff is amazing, plus he is small enough that he will work with you on custom items. Additionally I like S.O. Tech stuff, they have some innovative kit, I don't have much of their stuff, but what I do have I am very pleased with. High Speed gear and Tac Tailor is OK. I am not all that impressed with BlackHawk stuff, but there is some of their stuff that I do like, gloves for instance. For other more specialized stuff I look to makers like Triad Tactical (Their AI mag pouches for example), 8541 tactical, Grand River Tactical and again U.S. Grunt Gear. |

Stick with the American gear makers. It is not that much more just to get the well made stuff and not airsoft crap.
I like HSGI and SOTECH, Spec. Ops. Coyote is the new black. Watch it though because some makers are calling CB, Khaki. Usually Tan is more like Khaki. WTF? True coyote is dark, like the USMC issue gear. The 5.11 gear is made overseas. Sometimes LAPG has it for cheap. Not bad gear, not as nice as Blackhawk!, but BH isn't as nice as the others mentioned before. BTW...You are going to get about 1000 more posts of people's personal preferences. DP |
| As other posters have said, buy American made gear. Alot of it is only a little more then the stuff made overseas. Tactical Tailor is one of my favorites mostly because it can be found at the same price as overseas makers. HSGI and SOTech are other U.S companies that I have used gear from and make high quality equipment. There are also a few Vets out there starting up their own companies making gear too. Others on here would have better knowledge of these companies then I do but if Im not mistaken usgruntgear.com is one such company started by a former Marine. |
