I'm in the market for purchasing some gear and need some guidance.  First off, let me describe my plans.  It would be mainly be for SHTF/Zombies..etc. purposes.  In such an event i would plan on bunking down instead of fleeing.  For a PC the PIG system at SKD would be my choice, or would a 2-piece MAV with X-harness system be better for my plans?? I have some tactical training and even more emergency medical training.  But i want to obtain some gear to further train with.

Jackal23,

My best advice is to figure out what sort of load-out you want to carry then we can tailor a rig to your needs. I know when the Z-poc hits I'll be carrying more shotgun ammo than you can shake a stick at. I'm sure I won't have as much luck finding cool Ithaca shotguns and ammo laying around like Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine. However my normal rig has 8 M4 mags on it b/c that is what I carry for work. Both the PIG PC and the MAV are awesome. I love the PIG PC and Joe has put a ton of work into it, just wait until people realize how versatile it is. I also wore a TT Mav 2 piece for years until I got my Esstac Split front Boar. My one recommendation is that once you head to the range make sure you shoot in what you plan to wear. I see tons of guys that wear a belt rig to the range or to classes and always say "well my real rig..". Always train how you are going to fight b/c the last thing you want to do is reload from the waist b/c of muscle memory when your mags are on your chest rig. PM me if you have any questions at all.

Remember when you plan for Zombies you end up planning for almost all other types of crappy situations..... except mutant guinea pigs..... jeez I hope that never happens again.

Like many of us here I own a lot of set ups (Gear whores us all), and right now I am liking the Eagle LVAC for armor with a (in my case TAG Gladiator) chest rig over it.  That can be further augmented with a pack and subloads.

I also have a PC set up, and it works well too.

The other option with this gear is to run the PC over the LVAC for scalable armor layering. (I need to get a pic of that)

SKD has way too much of my money.  And they will be getting a lot more before it is all said and done.

Starting out with a chest rig wouldn't be a bad idea. Something  like the ATS, Eagle, or HSGI rigs.

Are you going to run plates?

If not it's pointless to spend the money on a PC.. you will be disappointed.

OP, read through my thread about My Take on SHTF Gear before you make a decision. Lots of sound advice and lessons learned in there.

Yes i plan on running plates, but not immediately due to financial constraints.  But they are on my shopping list.  Now that it has been brought up, where is the best place to purchase plates.  I'm NOT a LEO but i do know a few that would purchase them for me in the vendor only deals with LEOs.

I have no idea who the best is, but I ended with Firstchoice Level IV.. unfortunately they only sell to Govt/LE.

Lots of good feedback on BulletProofMe.com's stuff here..

I think the big thing with armor is make sure your buying from a reputable manufacturer..

ETA:

On the Eagle LVAC, is the sizing based on the BALCS panels only with one size plate, or is the sizing for BALCS and plates?
