Looks heavy and uncomfortable as hell.
See how far out from the face the voicebox and vents are? That distance is leverage, when you build up a good bit of sweat in the seal area it's going to try and pull the mask downwards on your face. If it's not trying to slip, it's going to give you a neck ache that will damn near blind ya. No thanks. "Looks cool" means nothing when you have to wear one for an extended period of time. |

Good for you then.. Did you not notice the SCBA intake hose? In this configuration it is not a Gasmask in the traditional parlance, but rather a a self contained air supply mask as indicated in the picture |

I'd rather carry extra face pieces in my response bag than carry all of them on my face at once. Sometime in the next year or so my team will be going from the MSA Firehawk CBRNE masks to the new MSA M7 setup. APR, PAPR, and SCBA mask all in one with built in coms gear, whoopdeedoo, the damn face piece weighs almost 7 lbs! Quoted:

But it's fun, and anthrax tastes like chicken. |

That would be the AVON M53 (U.S.) FM53 (U.K.) said to be only available to "folks-in-the-know".
That there mask has a voice projection unit in the front, a single flexible lens for greater field of view and more peripheral and a flatter canister mount for easier sight usage ? something along that line lol If I had a threat of a NBC attack I'd be forking over my cash to AVON, I mean if it's good enough for the U.S. and U.K. you cant go wrong |

OP:
1st off - I'm not affiliated with MSA/Avon in anyway. It's a great mask for tactical operations. The non-filter side is soft which allows you to get an actual cheek weld & use your sights w/o a lot of tilting & BS like the others. It was also designed around using NVG's: specifically PVS15's but it works great with all the variants. Has tear away lens protection, comfortable head basket, hydration system works well, voiceEM, commo connections, etc... It's the best mask I have used in 22 years of having to conduct operations wearing the things. It was designed with direct input & collaboration from some folks in the best units in the world for fighting in - not surviving a CBRN attack, decon operations, defending terrain or flying in. In other words, it's a kinetic designed p-mask from the ground up, unlike the others. If you want more specific info just send me an IM. |

Thank you, sir, for getting the "most informed" award. Avon just received another contract to supply to our US Armed Forces. The picture shown is the US version available to US Law Enforcement. The mask shown is one of the most versatile ever made, with the ability to quickly switch in the field from standard canisters, to forced air, to SCBA. For the rest of you "experts", you can see the rest of the line and specs here.... http://www.avon-protection.com/homeland-air-purifying-respirators.htm click on the "products" tab. |

Avon is one of the few manufacturers that make hydration tubes that are CBRN certified in a contaminated environment. For you MSA Millenium users, read your instruction manual. The Hydration tube is for use in non-contaminated atmospheres... whatever good that would do you. |
