I'm looking for some comfortable pants to wear as an alternative to jeans on the weekends.  I want something that is soft and comfortable, but durable enough to hold up to repeated washing and drying.

I've tried in a few pairs of Carhartt pants, but they all seem to be too baggy in the crotch and thigh area, underneath my ass.  Feels like they are hanging off me.  I like a more fitted pant in the seat/thigh, more like a jeans fit but not quite as snug, with a straight leg.  Seems all the "relaxed" or "loose" fit styles are too baggy for my lean frame.  I'm 6'2" with an athletic build, and dont have a dumpy ass like some couch surfers, so my waist is smaller than my hips/thighs.  Everything I try on looks like MCHammer pants!

Any other manufacturers like Carhartt, etc that make a relatively inexpensive pant that is better fitting and readily available?

Carhartt is excellent. I have also heard good things about 5.11 and Blackhawk for the price. If you want to step it up a notch and don't mind dropping some coin, I am sure TAD Gear pants would be excellent as well, but they are over $100 a pop.

5.11!

The 5.11s look too "tactical" to me, plus I'm not crazy about the fit and the back pockets.  Again, somewhat baggy fit.  Are the TAD pants more fitted in the seat/thigh area?

My body type is like Will's.  This is what I'm looking for:

Tru-Spec 24/7 pants are my new anti-jeans wear. They look like regular cargo pants but are loaded with "tactical" features.  For example if you really wanted to you could run 4 30rd m4 mags in the specially designed pockets without printing or even looking like you've got something.  I'm picky as hell with clothes and these pants are my favorite.  Bonus is they come in coyote.

That's only 10 bucks less than TAD's soft shell and hard shell pants.

BTW, if the material on their Softshell jackets is any indication the soft shell material will be very warm.

Rip-stop seem to be in the 100 dollar range though.

I want a pair myself, but I needed a jacket when I was ordering from them and 400-500 dollars is a lot to drop at one time for only 2 articles of clothes.

I'd avoid TAD, I've got a couple of pairs of Rip Stop Spartan Pants that are (at best) the same quality as propper or tru-spec cargo pants at 1/3 the price.  One pair developed its first hole after only 3 washings.

Check out Patagonia, North Face, or Mountain Khakis.  GAP, Eddie Bauer, and Red Head might also meet your needs.

I like those 24/7 pants! I might have to pick up a pair in OD and Navy.

Just to tag onto this thread since I was about to ask a similar question.

How about someone who makes a tactical pant that also zips off into shorts at the same or near price point of the 24/7? with similar features?

The only carhartt pants that don't have the baggy ass I've found (on me) are these :

Most "tactical" pants are a little too baggy, I've found as well.

I've been wearing these Dickies dungaree's lately. They fit a lot better than Carhart jeans. $20 at all the Wally Worlds around me. They come in a couple different earth tones.

These didn't last maybe 4-5 washings before the zipper blew out. Comfortable, but I'll need to get a zipper put on now.

Ive got two pairs, the rust color and green. Both have been holding up very well. They are a tad low in back vs the front and the pants are more of a boot cut almost(wide at the bottoms) sides that , they are solid  and have held up well.

Another brand ive been wearing is similar but made by sorel.

Ive got a pair of the fubar/acu LApolice pants .

But was not impressed. Some of the stiching sucked balls and had to redone( luckily i sew) . If not the crocth would have blown out.

They are narrow in the thighs but besides that fit very well. I may order a second pair ta the 13$ to see if the stiching issue was just bad QC checking.

That's why they were price marked down as "FUBAR"  due to bad stitching. The stitching on one of mine was fine only problem was the failed zipper. The other pair was missing the front button.

That's interesting...I've got about 7 pair (3 still in the packaging) that I've been wearing everyday for the past 4 months or so.  No problems so far, guess I just got lucky.

I haven't fixed the one missing it's button yet, so it may last quite a bit. I have heard of others that had good and bad luck with these FUBARS.

My order of 5.11's showed up today, so I'm set for a while. OMB express had them clearance for $14.99 w/ free shipping on select colors and sizes.  http://www.ombexpress.com/p_PT001+WAL+28+30.aspx

I've got a couple of pairs of TAD Spartan pants that are, at best, equal in quality to Propper or Tru-Spec at 1/3 the price.  I'm steering clear of their rip stop stuff from now on; one of my pairs of Spartan pants started to fray after only three washes.  I bought two pairs last August, and I'll be happy if I get another month out of them before they are done.  $90 trousers should last longer than that.

+100 for Tru-Spec 24/7's I have three pair and absolutely love them. I also have a pair of 5.11 tactical pants, which I thought I probably wouldn't like because of the back pockets, but honestly they are my second favorite pair of pants behind the 24/7.

I'm liking the 5.11 Taclite series pants. I have been wearing them for a few months now and I find that the material is great for comfort. The repel water very well which I am a huge proponent of. I'll have to see how they are i the heat but I have a feeling they'll be great.

They may or may not be your style, but I love my LA Police Gear pants. I've got one pair of tactical BDU's ($14.99) and one pair of the fubar tactical pants ($12.99). So far they have proven tough and durable from crawling all over rocks to around in the mud, grass, and gravel. If they tear, they were only $13-15 to begin with. The fubar ones are the same as their regular tactical pants, but the stitching wasn't aesthetically up to par so they're selling them as seconds. Seeing that price again makes me wanna buy another couple pairs. I wear them whenever I'm doing outdoors type stuff so I don't ruin my good jeans somehow (I've only got like three pairs).
