SO I purchased an IRACK off the EE without knowing anything about them. The condition is fine, but there are several questions I have.

First, it seems one of the front straps is about 2" longer than the other, causing the thing not to wear straight. Is this a design feature, or just a mistake? Also, one front buckle is behind the front webbing; the other is behind it. Is there a reason?

Next, I'm not really too hot on the side zipper. Is there any way (cheap) to rig a QR buckle on the back strap?

Third, can I run this thing with the bib folded down behind the main portion? Back on the shoulder straps, can I install a TT X-harness without modding/sewing on the IRACK?

I guess I'm kinda stupid for buying something I know little about. I just jumped on a deal. In light of all of the above questions, would I be better off to just forego/sell this thing and buy a TT MAV instead?

ETA: I did a search here and in the archives, but none of the replies answered my questions.

How about posting a pic of what you've got or a least a pic from the mfg's website, so we know what the fornicate you are talking about.

One strap 2" longer?  Are the straps adjustable with a friction buckle or fixed?

IS this what you are talking about?

Its also a plate carrier, is it not?

MFg site states the 'bib" is stash-away, meaning, hey, you can tuck it behind. Answers question #4.

Question #5:    The TT X-Harness doesn't have D rings to hold up the bib.  The X-Harness 1.5" wide webbing attaches to the Fastexs on the RACK.  Tis RACK has the shoulder straps sewn to the male part of the Fastex.  You would have to buy a pair of friction sliders to secure the webbing after it has been looped thru the Fastex provided with the IRACK.

Question #3, you may be able to get some of the IBA "T" straps with QR, these fit horizontally with the ends of the T fitting in the MOLLE straps above and below.    Tactical Tailor makes a product like this for use on an IBA with wore-out velcro:
IBA Interceptor Buckle Kit

Should you sell and buy a Mav?  Dunno, what are your intended purposes?

I had one of those back in the day, and they're great for what they are.

To answer your questions:
I don't remember anything about the strap length specifically. If it bothers you, get it shortened.

That zipper is built in, and that vest was designed to do that. The zipper location itself is awkward, but I always thought the concept was a brilliant idea. The traditional issue with chest rigs was that they aren't super easy (compared to a vest) to get on and off without getting tangled up in a cluster-f*ck of straps. That zipper is the solution to those donning and removing issues. You only lose one row of webbing and you gain the zipper. I always thought the IRACKS were supposed to be light rigs anyway, so I never really cared about that one row.

SDS came out with an improved harness (which I'm pretty sure the X-Harness is just a modified copy of). You can view this here: http://www.specialtydefense.com/p-195-super-rack-harness-only.aspx

You can run it with the bib down, but from what I can remember, there is no way to secure it, it just hangs there. I doubt the X-Harness will work without modification.

The IRACK was based on the original RACK system, and was designed to be used over existing armor (back in the days of the RBA, PASGT, and original Interceptor), and it's still a decent vest, provided you don't try to make it something it isn't.

Yes, the one you show in your pics is exactly what it is. The front straps are fixed––no adjustment either at the back panel (where the straps X) or down at the buckles. I was thinking I could cut the sewing on the straps and use a couple of tri-glides to adjust/secure the excess straps.

And yes, I went to the SDS site after posting this and looked at some of their descriptions. This rig is not a plate carrier, and the bib will fold down. I'm thinking a TT X harness would work with the bib folded down. Like you said, I might need a couple of extra pieces of hardware to do it.
