I need to find a custom gear maker to make some AR mag pouches for my team. We have a pouch that we all like and use, but the company we got them from no longer makes them.  I need to find someone that can reproduce it for us in Ranger Green and maybe a few in Coyote. This is going to be duty gear that is used daily so it needs to be bomb proof. Anyone know a gear guy that can do it?

Thanks,

Tom

Try diytactical.com.  Go to the gear request section and let 'em know what you need.  All of my gear has come from the guys on that forum and it's all great stuff.

Who made them before? How are they different?

Is there the possibility that there are similar or better pouches currently available? I'd love to see a pic just to see if there is something different that would be like a lightbulb going off...

I know someone that makes gear but only in Multicam and Black at the moment. I'll ask though. Send me a PM so I don't forget.

These are hip pouches for our M-4's. they hold 3 mags attach to your belt and ride high on your hip. This is the only system that we've found that everyone agrees works great. The other stuff rides to low on your leg and if it's under a load then it starts shifting and flopping everytime you run or take a knee, you have to constantly readjust it.

We originally bought them from Blackhawk years ago. Problem was they only came in black and they stopped making them.  Then about three years ago we had a well known custom gear guy make us some. Gear was nice but is starting to wear out.  We also had some issues with the time frame, as we paid for the gear and didn't receive some of it for almost 18 months.  So I should probably add, we need someone that can make it within a couple of weeks.

I'll try to get some photos up this week,  if for nothing else some of you guys can build it for yourself,  they really are a great piece of gear.

Hi

Have you looked at the new Safariland stuff?

They do a single strap leg shroud and you can fit the Drop Flex Adapter insead of the webbing belt strap

That gives you 3 different fixed carry points

That gives a higher platform

They are available in a number of colours

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think that's going to work for us. Keep in mind that I've never used this piece of gear, so I could be way off base here, but the problem that I see with this is that it's a hard molded piece, therefore it's going to stick out a ways. A nylon rig wraps around the contours of your body and sits flush against you. We all wear a Safariland 6004 holster, to have another rig sticking out on the other side can be problematic, especially when trying to get two guys down a hall or through a door at the same time, just an extra 1 to 2 inches makes a huge difference.

This is where I start laughing hysterically. When he said they had a well known custom gear maker keep them waiting for 18 months for all of it, my first thought was "John Wills".

ATS Tactical in Oak Grove, Kentucky has an on-site factory, and they have done custom runs of proprietary gear for various Fort Campbell-based units. If it's enough pieces and enough dollars, maybe they'll geek.

id get in touch with jeff at bcs

http://www.beezcombatsystems.bigcartel.com/

he made a really limited run of low profile plate carriers and was awesome to work with. He sent me a rough cut and i laid the soft armor/plates on it and traced them with sharpie sent it back and he restitched it, sent me another proof. We tweaked it some more and then sent us the finished product. The other good thing about workin with him was he was completely professional and when he did add his .02 cents it seemed like it was coming from somone that had a vast knowledge of gear and how it would feel wearing it long term (Does that last sentence make sense).

Panteltactical.com

Ssgt Pantel was my section Sgt in Iraq and he makes heavy duty gear. He just got done making some stuff for the 2nd Rng Batt and he has room for new contracts right now.
