Hi all,
I am in the market from some balistic sunglasses and wondered if anyone had experience/opinions on ESS (Recon) or Revision (Hellfly) glasses? Thanks in advance |
|
I dont have experience with Recon vs Hellfly, but I've had the chance to compare/use Sawfly vs Ice glasses and Locust vs Profile goggles.
both brand make great product at good price...you really cant go wrong with either as far as quality and protection; you should try them both becuse the use to fit a bit different...not a lot but there's difference. |

I actually have 2 pairs of prescription Recons, they're very nice. The hellflys are nice too, just bigger. A better comparison would be the hellfly vs flyby glasses, as these are the same size (the recon is a smaller version of the flyby).
I will say that Revision seems to have much better cs than ESS. I've emailed Revision numerous times and they have replied promptly each time, ESS not so much. Revision also offers a sweet Military discount. I would try both and get whatever looks/feels better. |
| I have used the revision sawfly extensively. They are very durable and flexible, protected my eyes from debris from a RPG that detonated 1 meter away fro me. I got dinged up, but those shades saved my eyes. Most guys would go thru 2 or more sets of oakleys on a rotation, I still have my revisions from the 07 rotation. I scratched my lenses because they got put in a bag with a bunch of tools accidently, so after i replaced the lens, i shot the old one at 15 meters with a 12 gauge #9 shot at 15 meters. No penetration. |
| Revision is more durable (aren't they the ones that have the advertisement of the lenses absorbing a shotgun blast?) but the lenses scratch like crazy. I have been much more pleased with my M frames. Going out at night was terrible with the Revisions after just a little over a month. The light was catching on every single scratch. And I'm not one to abuse gear either, I'm the guy who's anal about putting the glasses back in their little pouch when not in use. |
