Im looking to get some sort of pack for carrying med stuff.
I think a pouch is too small, however I think a full STOMP2 is too big. Basically Im looking for a Medics pack, that isnt entirely devoted to medic gear. I have a 3 Day Pack, and its fine for personal items, but not very good for med gear, tried it. From the pics of most Med packs Ive seen they are awesome for med gear but not for personal effects. Id like something built like a 3 day pack, that has a back pouch that opens up nice and big like a medic pack, with all the elastic and stuff. I dont need alot of stuff. Just room for trauma pads, guaze, tape, Aushermans, PPE, airways, cravats, diagnostic gear, cold packs, hot packs, and maybe a few other things like OTC meds and more "comfort" items. Id then also like to have a another compartment for clothing, food, and various other field items. Id also like ot have MOLLE for attachment of additional Mag pouches, and canteens. I guess you could consider this a BOB tailored to a medic. Any body have any ideas, or do you think (those of you that have them or have used them) the STOMP would fit the bill for that? Thanks. |

I use an ATS Cobra Pack. Plenty big, expandable, covered in MOLLE, and take the RAID frame to make it rigid. It will hold a metric ton of medical supplies. I keep it in my trunk, since I drive 80+ miles a day and most of it's interstate. I've come across 3 wrecks this year that already had EMS on scene. it's only a matter of time before I witness one first hand and have to use that shit.
You are much, much more likely to use your medical knowledge than your gun handling/fighting knowledge. ETA: Pics of my pack and what I keep in it: Outside has shears and a seat belt cutter along with a sharpie. You can see all the MOLLE. 6 cinch down straps and a nice padded back/straps.
Flap inside has 2 compartments. Top keeps gloves separate and available, bottom has boo boo kit, ammonia tabs, etc. Behind the top compartment are another Sharpie and some 14 ga. catheters. TN has a good samaritan law, but only for non-invasive stuff, so I doubt I'll ever use those.
Inside main compartment. Bottom has bandages, both H, Izzy, and the old field dressings, as well as a few cravats. Separating them from the rest is a Sam Splint. Above the splint is all the gauze, TQs, etc. Underneath all that crap is a series of cinch down straps with fastex buckles. Also, a hydro or frame sleeve. Outside top has 2 velcro covered holes for hydro tubes.
Hope this helps. |
