Looking at the CamelBak 3L to fit into my back mounted hydration carrier, but going by the picture, the tube looks REALLY short.

Look Here

Is this just a bad pic? Or will the tube only reach the top of the bladder (which makes no sense) and not hang out to where I can get to it while having the hydration carrier on my back?

It'll be fine.

I just want to verify before I order one and find out the hard way because that picture makes it look like the hose is only as high as the bladder. I wear my hydro carrier on my chest rig on my back and the hose would need to come out to my shoulderblade area so I could drink while I was walking. Will the hose make it that far?

I sell them.  I use them in the exact same way you will.

It will be fine.

If, for some reason, the hose is too short for your application, go to a hardware store that sells clear potable water tubing of the same inside diameter as the OEM tubing on the CamelBak, as well as double-ended nylon barbed fittings that are of the right outside diameter for your hose.

Cut the CB hose a couple of inches after the lower QD fitting (the one on the bladder), install a barb in the OEM hose, install enough new hose for your applicationonto the first barb, install second barb, and then re-install long remaining piece of OEM hose.

What you don't want is to install too long a new piece of hose, so that the bare hose is exposed to sunlight, etc., IOW, you want the hose that sticks out from the carrier to be covered with the neoprene temperature shield, and not partially bare.  The new piece, therefore, will be about a foot long, or pretty close to that, max.

yeah, that pic makes it look like it only goes to the top of the mouth.     LIke others said, it's more than long enough.   I run mines on the back of my PC and also use a Thermobak and I would have to tuck the excess tube into the bladder compartment.

to long imho, but it has a plus side. You can weave it anywhich way you want. Uner the arm, over the shoulder, etc. but in a mule it is kinda big lol

Yep. I run the MULE in a back pack when training, and I have to loop the damn thing once in my pack to keep it from dangling down to my belly button.

Plenty of tube, unless you store in on your ankle..

yeah, in my pack the beginning of the hose (bottom of bladder) is at my waist...the hose comes up, out of the top of the

pack, over my shoulder, and down the pack strap to my chest...its retarded long compared to that pic

Not for nothing, but if you are dead certain that you will not need excess hose, just cut off the excess.  Just remember that heavy clothing/armor might require a bit more hose.

Why carry the extra ounces of weight?

Chip away at the ounces, and the pounds take care of themselves....
