Does anybody bother with them? Was wondering if I should get any. Right now I have my Ciras loaded up with Ceradyn level 4 and soft level 3a. I had some level 3 side plates on order- but with what I have now the weight is really getting up there. The level 4 plates are size XL. The vest is just for SHTF and maybe some tactical courses so utility is in doubt. Whats the consensus dont bother with the side plates? |

There is a huge gap between your front and back plate and side plates mostly fill up that gap. Plates are there to protect your kill zone. with front, back and side plates that are properly fitted, you will cover most of that zone except a small space between the plates, and where your arms atatch to you chest. Side plates are kinda heavy but they do not effect mobility much. If you dont plan on getting shot, dont even bother with armor. But If you think there might be a day where you might, you will want all the protection you can get. |

yeah I have soft armour in the sides now on the Ciras- but because Im big although the XL vest fits fine- with a 6" side plate theres still a large area that they wouldnt cover so thats why I was wondering about it. My side is not 6" wide. I have good coverage with the soft armour though.
Does anybody have a pic of a ciras eagle with side plates in place? |

Bump for Grug's question and...does anyone make a side plate carrier with MOLLE on the outside? The Eagle carriers don't have MOLLE, so you lose the ability to hang stuff on the sides if you use their side plate carriers. Diamondback Tactical's Armored Warrior side plates have MOLLE on the outside of them and are "7.62 plus" rated. |
| Grug, I'm looking for the side plate carriers for the sides of my Eagle MAR-CIRAS. The Eagle ones cover the MOLLE on the sides, and do not have MOLLE on the outside of the side plate carrier, so you can't hang anything over them. The Diamond Tactical ones mentioned above have MOLLE on the outside of the carrier, but are only sold complete with armor, and sales are restricted. I'm looking for a combo of the two...side plate carrier with no armor (currently), and MOLLE on the outside. |
| are you sure? I have an Eagle MAR ciras and I was told that I could fit level 3 poly plates inside on top of the soft armour, although now you mention it theres nothing to secure them in place. I havent seen the add your talking about, I have the expanded neck armour and shoulder armour with soft inserts on backorder. |

Well, a search on Eagle's site turns up a different cumberbun for the land version of their CIRAS (http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=16240&cat=0&page=1), but not for the Maritime version you and I have. I originally spied these Eagle side plate carriers on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Eagle-Industries-FSBE-Side-Plate-Carrier-MOLLE-COYOTE-6_W0QQitemZ140337227088QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20acc02550&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14), but they don't have MOLLE on the outside. |
| http://www.bulletproofvestusa.com/ Defensive Products Inc will build stuff to order. I have bought a few concealable vests from them. Once you establish yourself with them, they are quite helpful. I met them at a local gun show. |
| You might want to contact DBT by phone. I have found their staff to be very friendly and helpful, and if they don't have what you need, they might be able to custom make it for you. FWIW, I am LEO but they did not ask for verification on the restricted items when I ordered my vest, plates, and helmet from them over the phone. |

Instead of standard 6x6 side plates, you could get these 6x8 side plates. Will provide a little extra coverage. |
