I assembled a fairly complete OTV setup, only to find that it did not work well at all for what I intended. I'm not LE or MIL, just a civy. Requirements are manuverability, comfortable stock placement, ease of prone shooting, no heavier than it has to be (the OTV really did none of these for me). Looking around, I find options for:
different carriers to fit the OTV/IBA soft armor-usually not allowing for hard plates plate carriers RAV and BALCS cut carriers for soft armor and plates Of these I find the plate carrier with cummerbund to be the most attractive to my requirements. Of these I find the Eagle and Tactical Tailor products to be substantially similar, but I am leaning towards the MSA/Paraclete SOHPC as it already has soft armor sewn in the sides. I have some 10x12 plates but they are not stand alone rated so I would need to additonally purchase soft inserts for the front and rear pockets to achieve full effectiveness. The problem is the SOHPC and soft plate inserts is almost the same money as the Eagle maritime CIRAS and a set of BALCS soft armor. Was looking for thoughts and opinions from those who have experience with them especially any weight (minus the hard plates) and manuverability comments. I know each of them are good quality. Thanks. I have been lurking for some time and read though several old posts but didn't find exaclty what I was looking for. |
