I dont know where to ask this (there was no "tape" forum) so Ill ask here.

I want to mark my mags and WANT (not need; I'm not an operator/SEAL/ninja/batman/coolperson) to use IFF or IR reflective tape. Does the infamous they family make such rolls? Or am I just thinking wishfully(?)?

there is GLINT tape; used to stitch a square on our helmet covers, it's IR reflective.  now ACU have embedded IR glints.  Supply room used to carry rolls  behind the counter.  List price was un- BUHLEEEVABLE.  like $300 a roll.  So it exists, but I don't know where you'd get it and I don't have any.  right now.

.....gotta ask why do you need that kind of tape on your mags?????  I've never heard of doing this to your mags....what's the purpose....

Hell, they're magazines.....ie expendible (in most cases).....Besides, to "see" them with some sort of IR tape on them, you would need "special" equipment (read:  NVG's)...

I've heard of 100mph tape for  attaching "old school" loops out of 550 cord on the base of your mags, and I've also heard/seen the use of small strips of skateboard tape on the bottom edges to ease in grasping.....but I've never heard of IR tape.....maybe I'm just out of the loop on this one!!!

I had never heard of IR tape either. And i already said why I need that kind of tape on my mags, because I WANT to. I know Id need nvg's, and who says I wont get some sometime soon? I appreciate the first posters response, he actually read my post.

Glint tape is not "tape" as you would know it. It is actually a fabric-like material and has no self adhesive properties.  You would have to glue it on, and I would not trust it for retention like a MAGPUL either.

Not sure if that information helps or not, but I figured I would pass it along.

As others have said, it's very expensive.  I've seen IR reflective rolls of glint fabric (silver stuff that either needs to be sewed or shoe-glued to something) and sheets of the black IR stuff that has a slightly sticky backing and IIRC comes in 12"x12" sheets that you cut with scissors, or in smaller 2"x2" or 1"x1" squares.  I think using either material to mark magazines would be very time consuming and expensive, and onc you used some to mark a magazine, it's more or less permanent - you can't un shoe glue something and use it over.  The black stuff is probably thick enough that you could no longer fit your magazines into normal pouches either.  All in all, I don't think it's a realistic idea.  Probably better to just get a sharpie and mark your mags with your initials and #1, #2, #3, etc.

I hope this was helpful.

Are you desiring the ability to find your mags if dropped in a grassy area, at night, or is this all about just having the ability to mark your stuff as yours?

As others have stated, the IR stuff is not really a practical way to go. If ID'ing your mags (to differentiate from other folk's mags, then all you need is a good permanent marker. If finding your mags in tall grass at a carbine course is your concern, then try some flourescent or reflective (3M) tape.

IFF tape is restricted for a reason. If you really need it, you already know where to get it.

See above. IFF tape is hard to get for a reason.
