I am looking to buy ear muffs. Recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
|
although a little pricey, i recommend dillon HP1 earmuff.
it has survived being continuously rained on for 6hrs at a time and being dropped 8' onto gravel twice. the sound is pretty clear, and does not turn off entirely when there is loud noise. it muffles the noise for less than a second and returns to normal. |

What "kind" or "type" of muffs are you looking for, and what your the absolute spending ceiling?
I am looking to buy ear muffs. Recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Then, the important question: For what purpose(s) do you intend on using them for? |

MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X. I have have used about all of the Peltors and the Sordins are head and shoulders above them and many others. http://www.jesseshunting.com/photopost/data/500/Sordins.jpg My choice as well, like them a lot more than the peltors, especially under a ACH. |
| +1 on the MSA Sordins... I use Pro-Ears before, very nice but the Sordins are much smaller and more comfortable, witht he same sound quality. Pro-Ears do let you adjust each side independently, that can be nice at times. But it is twice the switches to break, as one has done on mine. Plus the Sordins use AAA batteries so they are a bit easier to find than N size for the Pro-Ears. |

To the OP: I use peltor and I have two kinds
Cheap kind: Peltor shotgunners-first ones I ever bought, they still work great-no electronics. I think they are like 15 bucks. More expensive: Peltor tac6s-work pretty good, electronic is great IF YOUR BUDDY'S HAVE THEM TOO or for carbine courses and the like. Question for all you guys that have the comtac's.....What kind of radios do you use with them? Please feel free to IM me some knowledge on that since I've been thinking of getting some. Thanks. Green. Sorry for hijacking your thread |

My budget is $250 and I need it mostly for shooting at the indoor range. Peltor Tac 6's work and are low profile, but they have fairly limited (~35db) dampening. The dampening is even more reduced by wearing shooting/eye glasses. I've taken to putting in a strong-side earplug to increase the noise reduction on the "loud" side when on the range. |

Sorry to badger you with one more question, but is this an indoor range where it would be important for you to listen for or otherwise hear range commands?
My budget is $250 and I need it mostly for shooting at the indoor range. I think most of us are assuming you want/need active electronic ear muffs (the budget of $250 would certainly point to that conclusion), but I just wanted to be absolutely certain. Also, another advantage of the electronics is that they'd be more handy in a carbine/pistol course than passive muffs. |

Green. Sorry for hijacking your thread Whats your intent? What radio are you going to use it with? The PTT is the link between the radio and the headsets and they are built or can be built for just about any radio out there. Ive used them with the MBITR, PRC 117 and PSC5D |

Additionally, they are also right in line with the OP's budget ($250).

They appear to be on sale at the moment, with an MSRP of ~ $310. That said, I have no clue which is better; just tossing out another option. |

Also do the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X's include a microphone to use to talk with or is that extra? |

Heres a link to MSA Sordin headsets setup for use with radios, similar pricing to Peltor Comtacs depending on options. |
