So i'm not going to post this at my other favorite gear site (mainly cause i SHOULDN'T post there). they aren't as open to non-high speed kinda guys.

So i'm really re-thinking my chest rig. I've got a hsgi warlord v4. Here's my break down from left to right (atm)
Esstac Mini-Med Tall containing radio
Hsgi Double UMMP with Hsgi Pistol pouch attached to the left side
(room left open for ATS Small Med Pouch)
Esstac Mini-Med Tall (current med pouch that needs replacing as it's to small)

So here's what i'm thinking. As this is a SHTF rig, and at some point I will be mounted. I want to be able to move my pistol from my thigh to my chest for easier mounted draw (yes i realize that there are all sorts of hazards in doing so, but plan to train till it's done by muscle memory). for those of you who have experience in this type operation, do you go strong side or cross draw? If I go strong side it's as easy as swaping the min-med tall with a shingle containing a kydex holster. if it's cross draw i have to move the radio to the opposite side, or to my back on the hydration carrier.

thoughts?

oh, and i'll say it now. if you can't say anything nice, please don't say it. this is a serious inquiry and this thread has the possibility of containing good knowledge for future readers.

When i used to run a chest mounted holster, I kept it on my dominate side. I've gone away from chest mounted holsters now though.  If the case same up where I needed to use one; I'd just throw the pistol in a TT single mag mag pouch.

How high do you wear the rig on your chest?

I've had good results with holsters in both positions, but I wear them pretty low. The higher the holster is, the more awkward it seems to be to draw from the strong side, particularly if it is in a mag pouch or other vertical arrangement.

see that is the part that worries me as well. it's not up around my neck, but it's not sitting on my waist either. i guess it's about mid way. i guess i'm just going to have to try it and see what works best. it's not like i haven't redone my configuration a dozen times already.

Just IMO from personal experience:

Hip is the best all around carry if your gear does not interfere with draw.

During missions, I used drop leg for short missions and raids.  I found long term use of drop leg uncomfortable but great for short raids.

Most of the time I chose to carry on the chest in a cross draw configuration on my internal pouch chest rig over issue armor.  This worked for me because of the large amount of gear I was required to carry (Commo, medical, Armor, etc) it was the only way I could draw.

For my personal SHTF rig.  (I use an SKD universal eagle rig)  I carry both hip and right hand strong side on the chest in a pouch.  I have trained with this setup and find that it works well enough fror me.

So, I think that the chest mount has a place.  definately try it out and see if it works for you.  It is worth the time and effort.

I hope this helps.
