Hi everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum.

I decided that with my stimulus check I would go out and get a pair of high quality electronic ear muffs.

Can you guys give me a place to start or some good brands from your own experience?

I'm willing to spend up to $150, so I hope that will get me a really good set.

Thanks!

-Chris

edit:  Oh, and the slimmer the profile the better!

The least expensive seem to be right around $50 at Sportsmans Warehouse. I got some for my birthday last year just in time to go to a rifle class. They are GREAT! Mine were labled Remington, but I've seen the same form factor under different brand names.

They actually INCREASE your hearing sensitivity, so breathing, gravel crunching, range instructions, etc become MORE hearable. Then when a gun goes off, they basicaly "shut down," so all you hear is about what you'd hear with some non-electronic muffs. They recover within about 1 second.

These are not particularly slim. Gotta wear a baseball cap with 'em.

Howard Leight Impact Sport Muffs work well for around $50.  However, if I was going to spend a lot of money on really good ear-pro, I would get Sordins or Pelter Comtac II's.  Preferably Sordins for waterproofness, I'm not sure if the pelter comtac II's are waterproof but they are made for military use so I would assume that they are.

I have never even heard of a pair of waterproof electronic earpro.

I'd still go with the Peltor ears though.

I've heard good things about these, but I can't give you a first hand account. I'm savin' my pennies up for a pair of comtacs.

Peltor Tactical Six Stereo electronic hearing protection.

About $70,00 at Cabelas you can probably hunt down a pair closer to $60.00 if you look around. Good stuff, you'll see the Host of "Future Weapons" wear them and Magpul Dynamics Chris Costa has been seen wearing them as well.

I have the Peltor Comtact IIs and love them.

It's funny you say that.  I was just hunting around and found these, they appear to be just what I'm looking for.

I'll look around to see who has the best price on them.  Thanks everyone!

My Pistol Class last weekend I noticed 6/13 people wearing Peltor Tac 6S's
The last Carbine Class I went to 60% were wearing Peltor Tac 6S's

All the Instructors wore 6S's.
I have 3 sets of 6S's.
They work.

I have the Peltor TacSport.  TacSport  Work very well so far.  I have personally seen 1 pair of Tac 6's physically break while donning them for no apparent reason and 1 pair with the electronics go down permanently.  I have also "heard" that the electronic failure in the Tac 6's is a common problem by reading various reviews.

I went to Bass Pro to buy a pair of the Peltor Tactical 6, but they were out.

Stopped by Academy and picked up these instead.

They have external battery compartments and a better battery life than the Peltors, and they were about $20 cheaper.  I just don't like ordering stuff online, so hopefully these will work out.
