| Which is a better light the surefire g2 or 6p? |
|
^ ones aluminum ones nitrolen (polymer), thats it thats all thats different. They both use the same light module and switching system. I use a Z2 (basically a 6p with an aluminum combat grip). I like it a little more than the g2z (combat grip polymer versiong of g2) just because its a little more weighty. Both are great lights (6p and G2 ive used both and have a g2 setting in my glovebox of my car). Go with whatever one floats your boat. Only other advantage to the G2 is that it comes in different color options. |
| the G2 is also have the price and if you live someplace where the thermometer drops below freezing, the G2 won't cold freeze your hand during use - I like both, own both......several of each actually, but the G2 seems more user friendly all the time. It can ride around in a lightweight jacket pocket and you hardly notice it's there - for the price, you could own two of them, compare to the one 6P - just thoughts....... |
I thought that the P61 reflector was about 120 and the LED was about 80 lumens-regardless, it's a great choice with the longer run time compared to the incandesent. Unless you use the IR filter that is... |
What is the run time w/ the LED upgrade and where is the cheapest place to get it? |
The MSRP on the G2 LED, 85 lumen with a total runtime of 12 hours (of course that's not going to be bright or anything) is $65. www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/carfnbr/0/prrfnbr/24460/G2supandreg-sup-LED They also have a 100 lumen replacement assembly for quite a bit more. Here are their replacement LED lamps and heads. www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/carfnbr/293/sesent/00 |
So if I want the minimum 1 hr run time and the brightest bulb I should just keep it stock? |
No. The 1 hour runtime (and it's only about half that in reality at full brightness) is only with the 65 lumen incandescent lamp. The brightest option is the P61 at 120 lumens, but it only has about a 20 minute max runtime. The best option, other than price, would be the 100+ lumen LED model. It'll give close to full brightness for several hours. 100 to 120 lumens you won't be able to tell apart. If you use the light fairly often the savings in batteries (and to a lessor extent lamps) will make up for the greater initial cost. |
Ok, I thought the LED would be less bright. The LED upgrade it is then. Where is the cheapest place to get the upgrade? |
Check with Brightflashlights, he's here on arfcom/industry |

I would suggest getting a Malkoff drop in if you had the extra cash to spare. The quality of the drop in is top notch. He states the output is 235 lumens and I would believe it. Runtime is supposedly 1 and 1/2 hours on 2 CR123 batteries. I haven't tried that yet so I can't really comment on that. He also has a Low version and a Low Low one. Low being around 140 lumens and 4 1/2 hour runtime. Low Low being around 80 lumens at around 8 hours runtime. Nothing but praises about Gene Malkoff and his work on Candlepower forums. Malkoff drop in I prefer a 6P over the G2 and run a Malkoff with it. I can't be any happier. You won't be disappointed. |
