What about the military-issue softshells? (The Army ones in ACU colored fabric). They can be had for reasonable prices on ebay, much less than the specialized outdoor gear makers. What is the quality of those?

have not seen any soldiers actually using it.  the hooded carhartt softshell has worked for me this winter.  ive been rough on it; but if i washed it, itd look like new.
