Do folks have any suggestions for belts for the first line? My only experience with belts was from my military days and the old standard web pistol belt. Every time I go to look at setting up a first line, I get confused by the different duty belts and molle belts out there.

So if you go the duty belt route for all your first line kit. do you wear it in the belt loops on your pants? Or do you wear a belt for your pants and then the duty belt over that?

Separate belt, not looped through your pants. Generally, a 2" duty belt won't fit through the loops anyway. |

For a really light weight 1st line/covert SHTF situation I have a couple of paddle holsters for my pistol and a paddle double mag pouch.

Why did this get un-tacked?

This is correct. I just tacked a little information post at the top explaining what is going on, which is something I should have done last night. This thread and the others will stay in the forum rather than going to the archives, even if they are not used. If there is a demand for it or if we find that people are ignoring them and asking the same questions every couple of days again, I'll retack them, but for now, all mods have been asked to try to reduce the number of tacked threads in the forums. |

It was a bit big for my liking. The panel is a Tactical Tailor large panel and the holster is an HSGI. If you're interested send me a IM maybe we can arrange something.

What is the pouch that you moved from the side of your FAK to your drop leg? At first I thought it might be a knife- but I see the Gerber LMF- |
|

it is a knife. don't know what type, but he's carrying like 12....

I can understand having a redundancy in your gear but doesn't defeat the purpose to have both knives mounted on the same piece of your kit? (your dropleg subload)
Just my advice- |

what would the first piece to buy in 1st line. name and pic of each.

What are the actual names of each piece... kinda difficult to answer because it all comes down to what YOU want to carry. but here goes: ATS Warbelt, Ice Battlbelt, Tactical Tailor Molle Belt, OSOE Molle Sleeve popular brands are pretty much limited to three. ATS, HSGI and DBT popular versions include the sarfariland 6005/6005, HSGI Modular, Tactical Tailor Modular, Spec Ops Vapor holster w/ your choice of sleeve Anything else is completely subjective as some people put the following items on either their first or second line. Knives, Med Pouches, dump Pouches, gas mask pouches, general purpose pouches, strobe pouches, radio pouches, etc. that's about the best i can tell you for a first line without knowing more about your uses for it (.mil, .leo or .shtf). Will you deploy with it? will you use it in training classes? will it sit on the floor of your closet for the next 2 years? |

Calicojack is right. Although my first question would be what do you already have? Meaning, type of weapons, gear, then needs. If you only have a pistol then what you need is vastly different than some one who has an AR, AK, SMG, FAL, M1A...... you get the picture.

Here is my:
line one Line Two Line Three I am still working on improving each article as time goes on but they pretty well cover most everything. I will not keep the Line Two open very long, so if you cannot view it, its because I hide it again... I view Lines one two and three simply as: Line One is your basic uniform Line Two is your weapon support for your primary and secondary weapon Line 2.5 Modular Essential Bag (Piggy backs to pack but able to carry in line two) Line Three is your sustainment gear. Anything else added or taken away is modular to all lines. For instance if you need protective posture in Line 1, the you don the body armor etc and you always have your Primary weapon. Line Four is my BOV Line 4.5 is my Big Out Trailer Vehicle Support Line Five is my BOL Line Six Pre Stocks |

What about using a LBV and web belt as a combination 1st line/2nd line setup?

This is just my opinion of line 1,2,3....
They should all be separate/ modular. With the advent of gear, equipement and supplies these days even as apposed to 8 years ago. There are many options avaiable.... Your line one should allow you to be able to put on your line two, and your line one and two should allow you to put on your Line three and unass the area... All this without difficulty, and multiple readjustments. This is why I chose the chest harness I did, the thinner straps do not interfere with the straps of my pack and the openess of the chest rig on my back allows my back to breath bette then if I were wearing a vest fo some type...Sure when I wear a pack, I sweat. But who dosnt? Line 1 - is my basic uniform whatever that may be... Socks Underwear T' Shirt BDU Trousers BDU Blouse Head Cover Gloves Boots Water - Survival Straw Tool - Pocket Knife Nav - Pocket Compass Shelter - Clothing on my back and Line 1.5 Fire - Fire Starter Food - Line 1.5 Medical - Line 1.5 Signal - Line 1.5 Morale - Line 1.5 Line 1.5 Water Bladder added to above Scout with Essentials (Water, Tool, Navigation, Shelter, Fire, Food, Medical, Signal, Morale ) Line 2 Knee and Elbow Protection Individual Body Armor (Head and Torso) Chest Harness (Weapon support to include med kit to keep me alive until I can get to higher med) Line 2.5 Water Bladder added to above Med Kit added to above Scout added to above Line 3 Sustainment pack Scout attached Med Kit attached Line 3.5 Truck Keys added I like to think the way I designed my kit is completely modular and allows me to re configure for the mission <<< (used loosly) I intend to accopmlish... I can easily and fairly quicky move certain pieces from line to line if I need to.... |
