I'm considering finally buying some multicam stuff.

I wear BDU pants often for the range.

I occasionally will wear a BDU shirt as a light jacket wuith jeans or as a cover garmet for sims training.

I never wear a complete set of BDU's because I think it looks retarded if your not on-duty military.

That said, should i order the ACU pattern or the BDU pattern? Are the features of the ACU pattern worth the extra money? Looks like you get some extra pockets. What are the other advantages?

Well if you're just using this for range use, I don't think you will benefit from ACU.

The one thing that makes me consider the ACU pattern is the lack of the waist pull tabs. They are in the way of my holster on standard BDU's.

You lose two of the four front pockets with an ACU type. How much are you really gonna use the arm pockets?

Go for BDU style.

If it's not going to be your tacti-cool SHTF set, then go with BDUs for range commando duty or everyday wear.  I find the ACU layout is better if you wear a vest, because the two chest pockets are geared for easy access under armor or a vest, and the arm pockets really don't get used period.  They also seem to fit better.

ACU:  Your life depends on it SHTF
BDU:  Range commando, or you don't like velcro

No Camoflage is the best camoflage in the SHTF in my AO.

How much are you "really gonna use" the two lower front pockets?  Besides, I think he is talking strictly pants.

I'd go with ACU style if only for the ability to accept a wider belt.  The velcro pockets are a love or hate thing.

I use them all the time, as a matter of fact.

Good to know. The Wilderness gunbelt is a bit snug in regular BDU pants.

i wear BDU's every day so thats what I am more comfortable with.  I bought cheap asian Multicam when it first came out in ACU pattern because thats what i could get.  Now I am wishing I had BDU cut.  Someone should make a MARPAT cut multicam.

I like the ACU multicam pants I have, except the velcro.  Wish the thigh pocket flap was tack-sticked/secured in the back and open flap toward the front (that way your stuff doesnt spill out when you sit down).  I will probably take the velcro off or cover part of it up on my set - too hard to open the velcro flap with one hand.   I wish it just had some magnetic snaps instead of the velcro.

The ankle pockets are cool because they can hold a mag, but it works better if you tuck your pants into your boots or maybe have some elastic retention, otherwise it flops around a bit when you run.

I like the integrated waistband cord on the ACU, way better than the BDU belt tabs.

The cut is good, and multicam works very well in rural environs of CA.

You may not get benefits from it off the range, either.  If you're humping around the woods, you probably don't need velcro and zippers and crap.
