So my school backpack is shot, and I need a new one.  I figured I'd come here and get some suggestions on what would be a good durable, yet relatively inexpensive, tactical-type pack that could pull double duty as a school backpack.  Any ideas?

i like the lowe contour mountain.  the shovel pocket works great for quick access to a jacket.  molle is worthless to me on a pack, you want everything inside not attached on the outside.

The Wegner (Swiss) packs are a bit more practical in some sense since they have good padding for notebook computers.

I don't know how useful a tacti-cool pack will be at school with a hydration bladder built in. ;)

Otherwise, the Maxpedition Falcon packs are rather nice and have a pretty reasonable price tag.

That is exactly what I use for my work laptop, the back carries everything I need plus some, padded straps, little storage compartments...nice bags for work and school.

Picked this up for $50.  Should be good enough to haul my books around school.

Let us know how it works out.

You MAY want to take a needle and thread and reinforce some of the corner areas.

I have a maxpedition Falcon II and love it.

I just say that LApolicegear.com has Maxpedition baby condors on closeout.  www.lapolicegear.com/macl.html.

If it is anything like my Falcon, it will outlast you.

(just in case your CTD pack don't make the grade)

The current pack I have now, my mother bought it for me.  Paid over 100 bucks at some big chain sporting goods place or whatever.  Had the luggage handle and rollers and all that jazz.  I used it for one school year then stuck it in my closet for the summer.  Come next fall the damn thing was near useless, the nylon on all the straps had some how dried out or something and would just fray itself apart when used.

What?  Which pack are you talking about?  Is this an endorsement or a warning?
