I have a friend that is going to iraq soon and he needs some advice on choosing his gear. Right now he is looking for a chest rig to carry AR/Berretta mags, and maybe the beretta too. He's going to be driving a lot so that needs to be factored into the equation also. Any of you guys with experience over there, I/he would greatly appreciate your advice! I'm going to shoot him a link to this thread so he can read all of your replies. Thanks, Jess |

I will pass on what I have read elsewhere and what I have found out. chest rigs with pistol holsters are nice in theory, but, often get in thet way. they are nice for folks who do a lot of driving and reaching down to grab a pistol from a dropleg holster is difficult. The number of rifle mags you carry on your front may obstruct you mobility and ability to manuever in tight spaces with an M4. Drop leg mag pouches have a love/hate effect with most ground pounders. Putting all your mags on you legs makes your belt harder on your waist. I rarely hear of guys with more than 1 or 2 pistol mags on their vests. A lot of folks limit themselves to no more than 6 or 8 rifle mags on their chest. there is no real hard and fast rule for how folks setup their gear. The pic thread and militaryphotos.net are you best starting place for basic setups. blackhawk, eagle, and tactical tailor are your best bets. eagle would be my first pic for dolks in the sand pit. |
