I like the 5.11 shorts. Not a big fan of the trousers, but the shorts hold up well and have lots of pockets.

I wear Columbia or LL Bean shorts- no complaints other than the price. If you really want some durable shorts get the Patagonia Stand Up shorts.

If you have big legs like I do then cotton spandex under some 5.11 shorts are good to prevent chafing. It will make the twins sweat like hell but worth it.

Get the 5.11 "Academy" model as opposed to the "Tactical" shorts. The academy shorts are 3" shorter and I like the pocket configuration much better.

columbia ROC shorts. the pants are great, i prefer them to 5.11's anyday, for field and casual wear. the shorts are good to go as well.
