what do you wear for gloves? assault gloves, hand protection etc....

i wanted a pair of gloves that fit tight and had some knuckle protection in case i had to punch thru glass or smack someone in the head.

i ended up getting some black leather gloves with titanium knuckles. they were for motorcycle riding. i think they woulda worked out, but i bought size large from a local bike shop. wore them a few times and there a touch too tight. shoulda went with xtra large for my meat hook. im stuck with a $100 pair of gloves that are a lil to small, owell.

the gloves i bought are these

so what gloves are you guys wearing? or should i just ebay the gloves and not worry bout replacing? or what gloves should i get??? -chris

I would probably try selling them on Ebay and since you want knuckle protection I would go with the Oakley gloves.  Thoose gloves just seem to thick and heavy.  The ods of you needing that much protection is pretty slim and I beleive the Oakley gloves offer as much protection you will need with out being so big.

I personally just use Nomex Flight Gloves but they don't over any protection other than from heat but I like my gloves as thin as possible.

First, you are NOT going to punch through glass. That only happens in the movies. Do it in real life and you are going to get cut. That is why they make tools specifically for busting and raking glass.

Second, if you ever smack someone in the head with those, you are going to get your butt handed to you in the civil suit later. No "reasonable" person is going to look at those gloves and think that you didn't intend to cause undue harm.

Lastly I have tried on Icon Gloves for my Sportbike. You do not have anywhere near the feel that you do in a good set of shooting/assault gloves.

Go to your local Cop Shop and try on a couple pairs of Hatch gloves. Those are what I use on patrol. I am looking at trying a set of Oakley gloves when they are in stock again. They have a carbon knuckle protector, but are not anywhere near as agressive looking as those Icon gloves.

Why would you even want those for riding.....I sure wouldn't want to wear them.....I have a pair of riding gloves that I use when I ride that are just padded and not armored gloves...not gauntlets.  With the way I ride, I figure if I eat it and crash on my bike I'm going to be in a world of hurt anyways.

Oakley 1.0 Factory Pilot Glove

WileyX CAG glove

I have several pair of Oakleys, both the 1.0 and the 2.0 versions.  I could use slightly less bulk in the area of the thumb web, as it tends to hang-up on the back of my G17.  Not a issue when shooting Sigs or 1911s though.

Been meaning to order a pair of the Wileys and see how they hold-up.

those gloves are bad ass. i wanted them for my bike but they are pricy. +1 that they look a little too bulky for shooting. can you even fit your finget in the trigger guard?

I personally use Blackhawk Navigunner gloves.  Not a whole lot of protection, but you get great feel of a weapon, along with amazing grip when wet.  It is very easy to perform tasks like buttoning buttons, tying knots, etc, that other bulkier gloves prevent you from doing easily.

Winter months I use leather military gloves with inserts, but mainly use Nomex Flight Gloves, this felt my hands perfectly.

Have seen a few shooter who cut off part of the trigger finger, havent felt the need to do the same.

Their affordable and easy to replaced, also have used these glove while rappelling.

I've got a pair of BlackHawk gloves (fairly plain, black - don't remember the designation. Not the SOLAG, that's all I remember) and just bought a pair of Oakleys in tan. First impressions are that the Oakleys are WAY better gloves all 'round.

Just MHO obviously but they have the knuckle protection you were looking for. I don't think I'd be smashing glass with them though!

Yeah. I accidently did that while knocking on glass (instead of knocking right on the door). I was rapping on it with just my knuckles and when it broke I had nasty cuts all the way up to my wrist. It was about 70 year old weak glass, but still.

+1 on Oakley gloves.

+1 on the Oakley's. I love mine.

FYI - you can get them at www.tacticaltailor.com for the same price you would get them through Oakley's gov. discount.

I think those gloves are BAD ASS. BUT, look at all your operator types. The real ones, SF, Delta, Seals, they are all wearing Mechanix. I wore them all three times in the sand box and they are great. I dont need to punch through glass with my hand, use the weapon. Need to hit someone, pistol whip, learn to punch better, or kick them.
Thos gloves do rock though.

I have had a few pair of the Oakley's. I find them to be rather uncomfortable while shooting and prefer to wear nomex flight gloves. IMO... they are not worth the $50-70 that people are paying for them, as they fall apart just as fast as any other glove.

The Oakley .gov price is $35 (at least that is what I paid for them) not $50.

BruceLeroy... So every "real operator" wears Mechanix gloves? HUH......

I'm surprised that there has been such little mention of Hatch Operator gloves. I thought those were used a lot more than Oakley gloves and I've heard nothing but good about their durability.

Hatch makes great gloves but the new trend seem to be going towards more padding and such like Oakly and Wiley X, I personally don't like the newer type gloves I'm more of a fan of Hatch type gloves and Hellstorem Aviators

I wear the Hatch "Specialist" neoprene gloves. They're thin enough to provide control while handling firearms and other tasks, but not too bulky that simple tasks can't be accomplished. Because they are neoprene with rubbery patches, they are waterproof and provide excellent grip under wet or dry conditions. They seem to be rugged and well made, as the stitches have not yet begun to tear. They only drawback I have found with these gloves is the lack of insulation during cold weather. They will block the wind, but you feel the ambient temperature on your hands. They also make a "Specialist" winter glove with insulation. For the $20 I paid for them, they provide everything I need them to.

Mechanix gloves are about the best I have come across in the past few years. They are not flame resistant though.

SWS Gloves (Southwest Motor Sports). They were bought out by Camelbak and make some of the best gloves around. I have a pair of Max Grip NT's that, well, fit like a glove. Great design, comfort and workmanship. I think they now carry 11 different model to choose from.

They (Camelbak) have kept on staff the same great folks who started the company. You'll be hard pressed to find better customer service than Martina and crew present.

What he said - great customer service.  I had a pair that fit funny, they offered to replace it - admitted a problem, then sent me a replacement pair without even asking me for the original pair first.

i bought a pair of wileyx CAG-1  1st generation gloves last year on a whim. VERY disapointed with them. fabric is VERY thin. the "thumb web area" where the absorbant material is is VERY thin and after about 5 range sesions began to show severe wear.

no flame resistant, not cut resistant.

i will say they were comfortable just not well designed or made.

IMHO these gloves would be great at 25.00

for 80.00   they are crap.

I've had my Hatch Operator Shorty's for about 1 yr now. The tip of the middle finger on my right hand has a decent size hole in it. About 1/4". Don't know how it got there, but they don't really see that rough of use. Couple classes last year, and a monthly match. Could just be an isolated incident, but I'm not super impressed.

I wore a pair in Iraq and never had that problem. They held up real well. Manufacturing may have changed and quality gone down due to demand or you just got a bad pair. I would imagine that Hatch would replace them if it was craftsmanship, worth a shot at least.

I use a pair of ProGrip 4012 gloves for shooting and riding my ATV. These gloves are very cool during the summer and comfortable. They are not buky either. They are only around $30 if you search around. I need to get another pair so I can dedicate a pair to my AR and ATV.

Well, crossing the CAG-1 off the list.  Thanks TBS.
