I am working on my 1st line gear with a T.T. molle belt.  I was looking for a butt pack for it, but was looking at a Maxpedition proteus.  It would be attached to the back of the belt.  I figured it would give me more storage options and if needed I could detach it and use it.

What do you think?  What would you use?  Is it too big for a molle belt with other pouches on it.  Mainly I will have a doubel pistol mag pouch, double rifle pouch, a rolypolly and butt pack of some type with a Nalagene or canteen somewhere.

They have the real ones and I've seen generic ones on e-bay for around $18.00....  I know, I know Quality... but I am also looking at Budget...

On a budget?

then dont get one

what were you planning on carrying in it that cannot be carried elsewhere in a more accessible fashion?

I was planning on carrying a fewer small items... maybe pair of gloves, chem light or two, extra set batteries for flashlight...

Not too much, but stuff I'd like to have in case I had to ditch or didn't have my pack with me....

I use this small butt pack on my first line gear.

I use this enhanced but pack as a small back pack most of the time.

Both are molle.

How do you like your butt pack on your belt?  That's the one I am looking at.  What do you put in it?  How much does it hold?

Thanks

What about something like an EMDOM Wide Load?

You can see the two fastex buckles on the butt pack?. those are for the space saver straps, also their a roll of molle hooks up,kinda like those stackable, stack on pouches.
What I carry in the butt pack varies, usely first aid & small urvival items, MREs is very limited, usely have to break them down.

Their is devided compartments, so you can easily get to stuff, without having to take everything out to get to it, also makes it easier to go to & find certain items in the dark.

Also, you can hook up a bedroll on the bottom, I usely use a ranger bed roll.

Is there enough room on the sides of the Proteus for a nalgene bottle or canteen?

I have a lot of Maxpedition gear and even though it is top quality and for the most part well thought out they are limited size wise.

The Proteus (I have one) is great for 1st aid or say a last ditch and can be PAL'sd to the back of of most gear.

You could add the the M5 Waist Pack to the back and carry 1st Aid supplies (what I did) for another larger Maxpedition 3 day pack I am setting up.

I think the Devil Dog would be a better Butt Pack but they don't make it yet to double as an extention to gear.
