I still like using my ALICE pack over the molle sometimes, and a buddy told me that he took his to one of the blackhawk stores by 29 palms and got molle straps sewn on. id like to get that done as well, along with my BHI hydrastorm force 5, and get velcro patches sewn on for bloodtapes and the like (only on the force 5). my question is, what kind of webbing/velcro is mil-spec, where can i get it, and will a regular talor be able to sew this? would i have to ask for a specific stitch? and are molle webbing spaces an inch apart? what are usual dimensions? thanks guys! now that i think about it, i could get some webbing sewn onto my LBV as well (Ooh Rah old school)

1" nylon webbing spaced 1" apart with stitching every 1.5" is the spec although I've seen a lot of pouches that had the stitching at different intervals to fit the specific piece. Any tailor can do the sticthing but some may not have equipment suitable for attaching nylon webbing to a heavy nylon backing. If you're having it done by somebody who doesn't normally do this kind of thing, be sure to stress the importance of keeping things within spec and the importance of a strong stitch that won't pull loose. If you don't have anything MOLLE to show them then you may want to find something cheap as a demo. |
