I am on the verge of purchasing one of these rigs and would like to see pics of them set up. Also I cant decide on color (Black or OD). My department will not allow Tan and right now black is out of stock everywhere. OK guys, convice me this vest is what I need for patrol rifle work. Thanks in advance for the pics.

Wow, this thread bombed

Yeah, it did sort of bomb.  To be honest, if you are LEO, I would recommend the Weesatch.  For some reason, I find it more comfortable than the Wa.  This opinion is based on having worn both with level IV standalone plates.  I don't think you'll need the extra mag capacity.  That's my 2 cents.

Yes, I agree that this thread has gone south. WTF? Maybe only a select few of us have this item, can afford it, or don't have pics? Oh well. Can't please everyone all the time I guess. I just wanted to see how people were setting them up.

The reason why I want to go the WASATCH is I'm a big guy (6'2" 280lbs.). I was told by Joe at SKD the Wa would be better for bigger guys.

The Wa will give you a greater circumference fit due to the extra 2 pockets.  They both ride at the same vertical area and height though.  Even a 350 pounder would be able to wear it with the 2 strap setup!  Well, you've got 2 different opinions now... This IS Arfcom though, BUY BOTH!

Both? Hmmmmm. One for the patrol car and one for my POV!

rabidfox - I don't have a pic of mine right now, but I'm currently using the Wasatch at work - I've got it loaded with six 223 mags, two hard armor plates, my radio and a few flashbangs, along with pens/notepad...etc......I'm 6'4" 225lbs and it fits me ok - I took off one of the waist straps and only need one - I can wear it as a standalone rig or over my soft armor as well....I'd highly recommend the padded shoulder straps if you are going to carry hard armor plates in it though.....if I get a pic soon, I'll post it

I have one that I just use as a mag carrier without the plates, works fairly well with a full camelbak to even out the weight a little. One of the instructors at Blackwater said that's what he used in Iraq and that it was a pretty popular rig with those guys. I'm considering trying to find some stand alone plates for it in the future. It's very fast to throw on over your head and seems as practical as any other mag carrier for a civilian.

I'd get od over black, don't see a lot of black anymore-"target indicator black" & all that, though I suppose as a LEO black might look more "copish" and less "military" if that matters. Very nicely made set up, get the padded straps.

Many thanks Aimless. I will be going with the green. I have plates that will fit so I'm good to go there. I may add a few pouches but not many. I also have a Tempest Hydration system and will most likely just wear it over the WASATCH. No need for a hydro carrier. I want to order this thing bad but finances are a bit tight right now. I hope by the beginning of June at least.

The best pouch I added was a Maxpedition Roly poly, it's basically a bag that rolls up to a pack about the size of a pack of cigarettes, great for tossing magazines you're saving in a tactical reload, or for policing up empty magazines during range sessions, sticking ear pro in during breaks etc. The padded shoulder pads are worthwhile I think.

Why you are paying for this and not your department-shameful, but then most of the departments around here won't even allow rifles. An officer in the next county from me got in a pickle a couple of years ago responding to a jerk threatening to shoot his girlfriend-the jackass put a 270 round through the police car at the end of a long driveway-the officer basically sat there helpless hiding behind the car, armed only with a Glock 17, as the turd, who had a bolt action, scoped 270 stood on the porch screaming about how he was going to kill the girlfriend, who was cowering on the porch. Fortunately he decided to kill himself without killing the girlfriend or trying to murder the police officer.

Anyway the HSGI stuff is very high quality, I know it's not cheap but you'll be impressed when you see it. It is absolutely as nice as some of the $ 400+ chest rigs I have seen other guys with.

Someday when you have the funds the hydration carrier is nice to add to the back, you can stuff a first aid kit and other stuff you might need just in case in there and have almost a small bug out type bag in there-the whole thing goes on over your head with one buckle in a flash and rides high enouugh that it should not interfere with the stuff on your belt.

My S.O. will not pay for any "extra" gear. We are isued bullet resistant vests both covert (under the uniform) and overt (sorry excuse for a tac vest). Some of us got approved for using vests/carriers as long as the plates are in (front/back) and are level 3A or better. The WA and WEEs have been mentioned in training and are accepted if anyone wants to buy them.
Our policy on deploying the patrol rifles is not restrictive but very detailed. Part of the course to qualify is extensive class work on the policy. That's before we even touch the weapons. You can either use the issued Bushy AR (signed out of the armory) or qualify with your own. While training I used a CQB solutions Model1 vest. I stopped using it 2 hours into the class. Just did not work on my big frame. The WASATCH looks like it will work just fine. Now I just gotta get the checkbook from the wife and......

Just a suggestion try wearing the back hard plate in the Wasatch,it helps alot with the front weight of the mags if your loaded for Bear!
