I am looking into getting some good boots for some training coming up soon, and I was hoping to get  some input on which brand of boots to get.  I will be taking some pistol and carbine course's this year  and I want to get a good set that are comfortable and easy to run in etc...

Thanks in advance

I have a pair of Merrell Sawtooth boots that have been great! Excellent support, and light weight.

light hikers are very comfortable, easy to run in, keep your feet relativly cool and are inexpensive. i have a pair of solomen expert mids and a pair of merrill camelion ventilators, both are great like hikers that will fit your needs(any REI or Campmor ect will have them). if you're for a military combat boot, i would recommend a pair of Danner Acadias(not the desert ones) great boots and it would make a better winter boot(200g insulate and gore-tex) then a light hiker since you live in mid-west. you can find then on ebay for pretty cheap($100-$150) or brigade quartermasters has them new for around $190. or get a pair of jungle boots and put some nice insoles in them(Sole Technologies).i'm a bit of a boot freak. got about 10 pairs. Hanwags are by far my favorites, but they are a trekking boot, not the most ideal for what you want them for.

Anyone tried 5.11 HRT Boots?

I love Danner Acadias, I wear them daily for work but would like to try some 5.11 for classes.

I think I am behind the times. My last two pair of boots were USGI jungle boots and USGI leather boots.

I broke down and bought a pair of the 5.11 boots; wore them around at work last night, very comfortable. Would recommend them.

Get boots for the environment you need, and unless you live in the driest of deserts, get waterproof/goretex.

Make sure they fit.  Bad fit = pissed off feet.
Make sure they fit.  Bad fit = squeek squeek as you run and walk and creep.  bad if you are trying to be stealthy.

Finally, remember that every 0.5lb on your feet = 5 lbs on your back.

Bellevilles are the best I've found.  They work for me for 24hr wear and the steel toe versions aren't toe killers either, which is nice

Guess we have different feet.  What did you get?  I use 790's (non-insulated cordura gore-tex), and 880ST (insulated leather gore-tex).

Hell if I know. In all honesty, Its more like they are too goddamn small. The jackass at the CIIP at Benning wanted to argue with me about how well I know my own goddamn feet. This arguement was subsequently followed with me in the front leaning rest for 15 minutes.

Anyway, the 11Wides I was fitted for are too narrow and the balls of my feet literally walk on the outer edge of the sole.

Roger that, and sorry to hear.  First pair I got were W and missing an eyelet, replaced that one with two pair of R's and I'm good to go.
