| Alright, all I've dealt with is LC2 equipment, and even that is a pretty limited experience..What I'm asking is whether you guys prefer LC2 or MOLLE equpment, and why. I'm thinking of expanding my rig (current: LC2 belt, Y-harness with 3 pouches and a canteen.) and figure it wouldn't be too big of a loss to lose all my current stuff to transfer to MOLLE if it's advantageous. |

I preffer molle derivatives. I can mount a CLS bag, 12 40MM grenades, 2 hand grenades, two large GP pouches for MRE's and ammo, and 8-30rd mags, and a map/dump pouch [the zippered chest pouch] on the front of my SOE chest harness, whereas with LC-2, I would lose the dump pouch, the two GP's and have no-where to store the 40mm grenades. A few LCII pouches and a grenade vest are a half-assed alternative, but I still lose the GP's and the map/dump pouch. putting a vest over body armor doesn't seem to make sense. Molle is another way of accomplishing the same thing, the only difference is that molle vests, unlive a pistol belt, offer mounting in many configurations, it's like haveing an ALICE vest, so instead of mounting the pouch only on the belt, you can mount wherever on the vest you want. Molle also is a little more stable than ALICE, your pouches and shit won't be wobbleing like they did with ALICE. You can mount more pouches and operate with more efficiency with MOLLE gear. (camelbaks make a good replacement for canteens, though I keep canteens in my three-day pack for NBC.) If you don't need any more pouches or room, keep the LCII. Another thing to consider is, what MOLLE gear you will buy, if you leave the issue gear scene you can get really nice rigs like the SO-tech hellcat, and SOE Molle Chest harness. I would preffer that route to a Military issue molle vest. |
| Sounds like I'll have to invest in some MOLLE gear, all my Alice stuff is dreadfully uncomfortable and pretty useless to be blunt. If I'm packing a shotgun, I change all my pouches around, if I have any other gun, switch them again, if I have both, I get to compromise between packs. What do you use to hold the 40mm grenades on your rig? I've seen half-assed duct tape tubes with Alice clips on them, but not really what I'd trust my gear to. |

SOE sells mag pouches that hols 2 Ar mags and have a combination Alice/Molle attachment system on the front. SOE also makes a nice over priced 40mm 4-pannel to attach to them, but I bought the Tactical Tailor 4-pannels and used them instead. They aren't perfect but they get the job done in a non-half-assed manor for 50% of the cost. You could probably store shotgun shells in the zippered GP pouches and save the time spent re-configuring. They'll probbaly hold a box of 25 and then some. Make sure that if you buy that you get the SOE Molle vest and pouches and assemble your own DA chest harness, don't just buy the DA chest harness. (if you buy the DA chest harness the pouches are sewn in, if you get the molle vest you can assemble the same thing for the same price only everything is MOlle and you can re-configure as needed (like if you decide to buy a 9mm SMG or become an M240B gunner, medic or something< reconfiguring takes about an hour, so it's not something you'll want to do in ten minutes, but it sure beats having to buy a whole new rig.) |
Well damn, now that I actually look at MOLLE gear, it's friggen ugly! I thought you would get LBV's with a couple MOLLE attatch points 'strategically located', not a vest that's nothin but webbing! Guess I'll have to get some more money before I can throw it into a vest AND pockets. Any particular vest/rig you reccomend? Or just any features to look for?

I'm just a broken record on SOE's DA chest harness. That in a Molle configuration or just the DA harness sewn together without Molle webbing is around $315 right now with the new price increase. Keep in mind if you don't have a 40mm grenade launcher, you can save with the Molle DA harness and other brand mag pouches, like TT or SDS Rack pouches. (the SOE DA pouches are about $25 each and the others are less than half that.), you could also use someone else's GP pouches, or buy one GP from SOE and put a holster on the other side of the harness crossdraw style. (the beauty of the chest harness is keeping crap off your legs and belt and if you can accomplish that you will probably enjoy the result.) I like it. A lot of other people here do the same for the SO-Tech Hellcat. They are around $115 (I could be way wrong on that though). The SO-tech hellcat has room for about 6magazines stock and you can add pouches from there. A vest full of webbing is a beautiful thing- it means you get to choose where to mount your gear, and you won't run out of mounting room soon. There are litterally dozens of settups to go with, including the new CQB solutions molle rig, so it's hard to say. |
