Quoted: Well we have a pile of parts now. The only thing I can't figure out how to get the mag spring out, and which mag spring to replace it are you guys using and how to get the fore arm off the action bars. It is split all the way down. not sure if it is salvageable. And man what did the Malaysians have against the safeties on these things anyway? I wish I would have bought one for myself now. It is going to be a fun restoration for the boy and Ihttps://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/230179/D958EC7E-63D0-4E2C-99B0-1383E7E12C8C_jpe-1344057.JPGhttps://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/230179/6FFD8748-1FFA-4142-A253-C23812177492_jpe-1344058.JPGhttps://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/230179/4B1901C8-D552-4966-BF9E-4AC4B5AA8B32_jpe-1344060.JPG View Quote My first one had a split in the handguard like that and they had repaired it with hot glue it looked like. Worked fine and is still going. You can get a new grip from Numerich just like the ones that came on them. Get the oiled finish. I did on my second one. This is the replacement grip. |

Yeah, it looks like the new one doesn't have the fluting.
But if mine was roached out I'd buy a new one also. |
|
Dunno, looks the same to me. I see fluting on both forearms. Color is different; but, it could be my aging eyes ??

Quoted: I was talking about the area right behind the wrist of the stock. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/91277/500_ATP_stock-1345557.jpg It's quite pronounced on my picture. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/91277/500ATP_JPG-1345042.jpg View Quote That is because its a commercial stock with no checkering. It has a thinner grip also like the commercial 500s. It was only $27 complete with the butt pad. |
|
I also put a bigger tactical safety button on the second one.
|
|
To be clear I wasn't criticizing, just trying to expand my knowledge base. It seems if you want to keep it 100% like original you have to get vintage wood.

I disassembled as far as I could, put the wood in the dishwasher, and bought a new buttpad and safety from Numrich. The safety from a 500 doesn’t work, I was lucky to have saved the original safety block, and works. The stock has some cracks, if I wanted to really run the shotgun hard, I’d replace it. But, it cycles, shoots, and has a bayonet lug. View Quote If only they could speak. It's been thoroughly used and seen better days. Fortunately it's now in your hands. |

Are there any places other than brownells selling appropriate parts at reasonable prices? I placed a large order with Numrich just to find out they shuttered their doors due to NY restrictions.

I didnt have any problems with new 500 safetys fitting. I replaced both of mine. One I replaced the block and all new. |

I just ordered two of the $119 gunsmith specials they sent out in their email. Hopefully their shipping isn’t horribly slow with all this virus crap. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t order them because they have a bayonet lug

I regret not grabbing one of these. Especially after seeing your guys finished products. I love beater/project guns. Every solid ol' gun that's brought back into good working order makes the world a little better place. Plus, I don't have a shotty that accepts bayonets and that just doesn't sit right with me.

Well they had two of the $149 ones in stock this morning for whatever reason. I pulled the trigger on one. Has anyone gotten one of the $119 versions in yet? Wonder what the difference is in real life?

I'm fighting the urge to get a $119 version to see which is better.

How long to they take ship normally and right now? I ordered on the 16th, haven't heard anything.

I got mine today. The butt stock is broken completely and dangling off the back of the receiver by the mounting bolt. The safety is broken like others. And the trigger housing is broken and stripped of the trigger parts and it. The receiver, magazine tube, extension, and barrel has the bead sight and are salvageable. I will see how much it will cost to resurrect this pile of parts and maybe make a proper shotgun out of it. stay tuned.

Well shit, I saw they had some of the $119 ones in stock. Order placed (I NEEDED a bayonet host). Depending on how bad it is, I'll replace the missing parts, clean it up, and shoot it. Or do a full refinish if required. Either way, I'm gunna have fun doing it.
