I believe it’s a designation for the final assembler.

I have an older 870 that has the 3 letter barrel code.  The code is AZZ.  The last letter is the builder's mark.

S/N: S394888V
Barrel code: KU

It’s been used but not much. Wood shows more wear than the metal.

Can we keep track of what these sell for in the OP? We know at least one folder sold for $1200, and a few more are listed as we speak.

It's been brought up before.  I ordered one.  I plan on installing mine but it's tight.  The stock will barely latch closed as the rubber piece is is just a hair to thick.  It really needs to be only as half as thick as it is.

ETA:  I don't think it will work on mine.  The adhesive on the rubber piece is old and no longer going to work so that means using some double stick tape or something similar.  I bet that will make it so it won't latch close 'cuz it will be too thick.

I got mine yesterday. The protective paper over the adhesive had a couple of spots that were contaminated with oil and killed the adhesive. I de-greased the butt and put it on anyway. It seems to have adhered well and as I'm not planning on firing the thing much, it will do. There is already marks on top of the barrel from it anyway so mine just keeps it quiet.

Still sucks. Ad says nothing about inop shotguns or missing significant parts. That said, he’s still $800 ahead even after buying a bolt and the shotgun.

I wonder how many of these were carried and/or fired during the Kent State shootings?  These shotguns have the potential to be of great historical significance.  Or maybe I’m just biased because “Ohio” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young is one of my favorites.

It appears you’re correct. According to the Google machine, these shotguns were produced a year after the Kent State shootings.

All the footage I've seen from that day was soldiers with Garands and 1911s. If anything these shotguns we're probably purchased in reaction to Kent State to give the NG a different platform to use for state deployment.

I won this on GB last week.  She just arrived yesterday and got a deep cleaning.  Super dirty, but it cleaned up great wit ATF. Almost no scratches or rust.  I am very happy. Photos of serial and barrel code for registry.

When I was emailing Bruce, he seemed to think the lug assembly was an option from Remington for LE.  That picture is the first time I've seen it on an LE gun.

ETA: if I'm reading it right, the bad guys had the 870 folder?

The article goes into detail at the bottom and it looks like that is the case.  Odd.
