My Mossberg 590a1 started life with a speed feed stock and a tri-rail forend and XS Ghost Ring Sights.

Then I added a bayonet.

I had always wanted a heat shield so I bought one for a standard 500 knowing it wasn't going to fit. I thought I could modify it but when I received it - I realized I was going to ruin it if I did. So back into the box and onto the shelf in the closet it went.

IIt was not until THIS thread and several PMs with a fellow ARFcommer I had learned Mossberg made a heat shield for the heavy barreled 590a1. Much rejoicing was had when I placed my order. It showed up a few days ago and was installed.

Several days ago I also talked to another ARFcommer about wood furniture. So off to Numrich I went and ordered some wood furniture. Today it arrived.

Unfortunately, all is not well. When I opened the package from Numrich I had discovered the forend was damaged. I installed the stock but it just looked weird so I went ahead and installed the damaged forend anyway.

I contacted Numrich and told them that the forend was damaged with a crack three quarters of the way down the side of it. The woman I spoke to was very nice and told me that they would be sending a new one out free of charge and to just throw the damaged part back. They refused to take the damaged forend back.

I also didn't really beli that they were going to send me a new one but I did get an email from them saying they were getting a new one ready to ship. It even showed up on my account.

Oddly enough I'm sad that this forend is damaged, it's a very beautiful piece of wood.

P.S. Fucking you 500 Zombie Error.

I like it.  A trench gun has always been on my "sort of want" list.

Thanks, ever since I saw this picture I've always wanted to do it to my 590a1.

Wedge that crack open with a toothpick.  Use some dental floss pulled through the crack to get carpenters wood glue as deep in the crack as possible.  Pull the toothpick and wrap with some surgical tubing or elastic.  If you got the glue in and the crack pulled tight, it will be stronger than original tomorrow.

I'll try that. At this point it can't get any more damaged than it already is and I have a replacement coming from Numrich anyway.

I'm going to do that. My replacement forend should be here either today or tomorrow. When it gets here I'll attempt fixing the cracked one.

This reminds me that I've been meaning to put wood furniture on my 590 for almost a decade.

Looks great, man.

Here's my 590A1 Trench Gun

Mossberg should start making these for sale.  I think that they would sell.

When I installed the Front End of the Heat Shield, I spread the legs a bit so it would not scratch the barrel, then used channel lock pliers
(with Duct Tape on the Jaws) to bring the legs closer together.  I then used 1 LONG 6/32 Nut & Bolt (with the Spacer installed) to bring
the Legs together enough to use the Stock Mossberg Nut & Bolt on the other Hole, once that was holding, I un-did the Long Nut & Bolt
and then affixed the other Mossberg Nut & Bolt to the Second hole, then tightened everything up for good using Blue  Loctite.

Can you get a stupid long bayonet for that like some of the ones on the old Winchester trench guns?

I did the same thing but took it one step more and made a custom bayonet for it! Fit a m7 to a p1907 enfield bayonet!

Started life as this!

I was thinking about taking one of those Reproduction 16" Bayonet's and seeing if it's possible to modify it to

M16 Bayonet Spec's to work on these Mossberg 590A1 Trench Guns.

Looks like a new Project has been born.

Some nice looking guns up in this thread. If the 00 doesn't make the grass grow, the bayonnet sure will.

I've been trying to reply to this thread since yesterday. Apparently I can't quote anyone to reply to. I also can't type any more than this. My own thread hates me.

Looks great! that is too bad about the crack, but at least they are taking care of you!

Looks like it's time to learn how to DIY stock repair with brass pins!

BMHSSG, I don't think that I'd shoot Slugs with that Bayonet attached.  It might slice them in half.
