I bought a Rossi youth 410/22lr combo.  When I'm using the 410 barrel I noticed it shoots quite high with the front bead sight.

It's a combination of 2 factors, the gun is lifting during recoil.

But also, the barrel tapers down towards the muzzle, meaning that the receiver/chamber is higher by about 1/4".  In order to even see the front bead sight I'm definitely pointing up.

If the bead sight was on a ramp base it'd be spot on, out just a tad higher.  It's flush to the barre right now.

Anyone know of 410 barrel front bead sight bases?  I see them for 12/20 but not sure if the contour of the barrel would result in a problem.

Is the stock too short for you?

I have seen shooters shot high if the stock is too short, despite a good mount and not raising their head.  There is not enough drop at the comb where there face contacts the stock.

Adding some length will sometimes help.

So I finally got a chance to look at that gun.

It looks to me that in order to see the bead you have to elevate the sight picture so that would cause the gun to shoot high.

To get the gun to shoot flat I would just look flat across the receiver and concentrate on the target and see how it shoots.

I know that does not help with slugs but I doubt that barrel is regulated to shoot slugs.

You may be able to find a front sight that screws in to the bead hole.  Similar to this:

Obviously this has a rib.

I picked up a Truglo Glo Dot II .410 sight.

It is about 2-3mm higher than the bead sight.  The only issue is that because it's a plastic sleeve and flexes, it can "twist" on the barrel, where the tube get sort of angled.

I may put a dab of adhesive underneath to help is stay straight.  It's very minor, but if it shifts just a little my OCD kicks in and I go full retard.

I'll give you a hint.

Look at the target not the sight when shooting a shotgun at moving targets.

ATI sells a collapsible stock and forearm for the full sized matched pair.  By the reviews, the stock will work on the youth model.
