A friend of mine bought his son a lightly used Mossberg 500e 410. The issue is, if you keep rearward pressure on the pump, the bolt will come 3/8 of an inch out of battery. I took the gun from him and completely field stripped and cleaned it. The problem still remains. Does anyone have a fix for this. The gun will not fire out of battery, but the hammer will fall.

I just looked at a 500e here.
The only thing I can see that would cause this condition is that the action lock lever (part #57 at Numrich) could be damaged.
The little lever should be one piece from the end which sticks out behind the trigger to the tip which ends even with the front of the trigger group.

Check to see that it is not bent or broken off.

One other possibility is that the lever is not pivoting on it's pin.

Also check to see if your bolt lock (#29) and receiver interface is OK, undamaged, etc.
