Hello all,

I think I'm pretty much squared away when it comes to my ARs. But I've been thinking I should give some attention to my 870 Tactical.  I think it's pretty much a bare bones Express with Remington's stupid "Tactical" breaching choke. I found a website that offers their Ultimate Reliability Kit, which replaces the stock extractor, carrier dog spring, and mag follower. Here it is:

I honestly think it makes sense, and based on what the individual prices are on the parts, it seems like a pretty decent deal.  My questions are, would replacing the parts be a good idea?  And is replacing these parts difficult?

Thanks!

I have extensive experience with 870's. We shoot the hell out of them at our monthly law enforcement shoot. "Video of shoot posted below". I would recommend buying the kit if you shoot your 870 a lot. Parts are not hard to replace. I have upgraded mine and have never had a problem. I can't say the same for some stock express models that I've shot.

Thanks, BQ.  I haven't really shot my 870 all that much. When I shoot shotguns, it's almost always my Siver Pigeon or Montefeltro.  But I REALLY like the idea of a HD shotgun. I noticed the website has installation videos, and it doesn't look hard at all. Seems like a whole lotta piece of mind for very little cash. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks!

Not sure of the "value" kit based on just price, but it is easy one-stop shopping. I do imagine the price would be pretty fair. Do hate that they infer the MIM extractor is "cheaping out." Guys like J. D. McGuire have been pointing out for years the MIM extractor is the same price as the steel extractor... why not put the steel extractor in all the 870s? Then they go at the "weak" carrier dog lifter spring. Its fine. Using the stronger spring from the 1100 is better. Apologize for the little rant, just get pissed at all the bad info out there. Those parts are a good improvement.

I just looked at Midway and the MIM extractor is $9.99 and the Police extractor is $16.99...70% more.

Well, I passed on their Reliability kit and got the Police and Tactical packages.  Those two packages include everything in the reliability kit, but also included a magazine extension, side saddle, police sear, big safety, and Magpul stock set. All the parts went in pretty well.  But it's kind of a bitch getting the bolt and forend back in the first time. Highly recommended!
