Hey everyone, I finally went out and bought my first shotgun today.  I wanted something inexpensive as I've got the gun fever and have a few other firearms I want to buy, so I went with a H&R Pardner Pump.  I was curious if there's anything I should do starting out with the gun?  I plan on cleaning it initially, but anything in particular I should be concerned about spend a little extra time doing, etc?  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks a ton!  Pics to come soon!

1. Shoot it
2. Enjoy it.
3. Keep it in the family.

I don't own an H&R but I've had quite a few NIB shotguns

I always check out youtube and learn how to tear the weapon completely down and give it a thorough cleaning and a good oil down. Put it back together and check function
There's not much to do really except get comfortable with how the mechanism work and clean and oil it
And of course turn the lights off and sweep your house

i just got the same one with the 18.5" non ribbed barrel and syn stock/grip. waiting till friday to pick it up because sports authority and the state of CA suck

I'm also curious as to what people recommend as it's not my first firearm but it is my first shotgun but it seems like it's the standard break it down, clean it, shoot it. repeat.

I've read it accepts 870 parts...I'm hoping that's true as the 870 has a decent aftermarket selection.

I got the synthetic stock, it's the 18.5 inch barrel.  Here's some pictures finally!  Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics!
Any recommendations on how to smooth out some edges in the receiver and magazine tube?  I cut my thumb up in quite a few places practicing loading shells into it, the edges are pretty sharp.  Thanks!

And one more question, I'm looking for a +2 magazine extension for this shotgun but I don't want to have to do any resizing of it as I don't have any tools and I'm not that handy.  Any recommendations, or am I pretty much screwed and can just go with a +1?  Thanks again!

I always take a cloth wheel with some polishing compound and go over everything with my little low speed dremel on new guns that have sharp areas where my fingers roam and parts slide past one another. helps polish up the parts for smoother action and will save your fingers.
