So I was just wondering if there is any real difference between the standard 870 tactical and the Magpul version besides the stock and the fore.

The standard is like $499 and the Magpul is I think $799 at gander Mountain and I don't think the price of the stock and the fore on it's own could make up for the difference in price.  Actually I think you could almost buy the straight tactical and add the Magpul furniture for almost the same price.  So the real question is is there any difference besides the stock and the fore.

By the way I posted the wrong picture for the standard tactical and that is not really the one I am referring to.

The Magpul comes with a Cerakote finish. The second picture you show is not the tactical, it is the express synthetic 7-round, which shouldn't be $499 (more around $400).  If comparing the Magpul to the Tactical, the finish and furniture (obviously) will be different. If comparing the Magpul to the Synthetic 7-round, you will also have ghost ring XS sights and a rem-choke barrel (with standoff style choke) on the MP.

Yes as I stated I did post the wrong pic I meant to compare the tactical to the Magpul tactical thanks though.

Basically the finish is what you are paying for...in addition to furniture. I would vote for the Cerakote being well worth the extra money.

ghost ring sights/rail..threaded for chokes..add up what the furniture costs, and what it costs to get ghost rings/installed, and your barrel threaded, see if its a good deal..

Are there any aftermarket triggers for the 870?

I always look to improving the trigger pulls of my guns whenever possible.

only difference, other than cerakote, is the magpul version has a really REALLY ugly stock set....

Ugly or not have you held that thing??.  I think shotguns in general unless they are some careved fancy over/under or a high end bird gun are pretty ugly but to me the Magpul stock set has just perfect ergonomics for a shotgun.  I of course have never shot one with it on but the look and feel to me is excellent which is why I have been thinking about getting one.

Just buy a used 870 and do with it what you want...also, watch out for the factory mag tube extensions.  Some are 1 piece mag tubes and can't be removed/modified without major expense.

I just got the 870 tactical Magpul and I am impressed.  The stock is fully adjustable with spacers for LOP and extra cheek risers.  the Ghost ring sights are nice and fast.  I am very impressed with this shotgun.  It came with the DVD set from Magpul, the art of the dynamic shotgun.

You can help it out by installing a "trap" trigger spring. It's a genuine Remington part that drops in, and you can buy one from Midway for a few dollars. It lightens the pull a little.

If you take apart the trigger group, there are a few pins you can polish, and there is usually a bunch of flash that can be carefully filed off. Doing this, along with swapping the spring, and the trigger improves considerably but not massively.

Midway also sells a Timney trigger upgrade, but I haven't tried it.

Hopefully Geissle or CMC or some other trigger builder is working on complete drop-in assemblies to cover their bases should our beloved sporting rifles be legislated away.

Mine is actually a 870 Tac (non-magpul version) that came with a cerakote finish.   I added the SGA furniture after..   I'm not sure if the base model still comes with the cerakote or not...

Thought all factory R870 tubes were two piece. Never seen a one piece care to shed some light on this?
