Looking for a new shotgun and would like some recs as to what I should look at.  I've always been a Remington guy but hated my only semi auto which was a 11-87.  I like the Beretta Extrema from what I've seen.

Will he using this for upland game, maybe some small game and trap/skeet. So it needs to be multi purpose. Would like a nice quality gun and thinking I want a wood stock over synthetic.  I'm thinking of selling a AR to fund it, so $1-2k range for budget.

What say the hive?

Thanks

What did you not like about the 11/87 for hunting and casual clays?

It's not a bad field gun but I'd pick my 870 over it for some reason. Just not my favorite. Now I've shot some nice 1100s

1100s suck as a hunting gun, not nearly as reliable as the 11-87 unless you open up the gas ports.

For all practical purposes, the 1100 and the 1187 have identical exterior dimensions.  The differences are mechanical and internal, allowing the 1187 to fire a larger spectrum of ammunition.

My advise to you is to go to a place with a lot of shotguns....a club, Cabela's, whatever.  Pick up and feel as many different guns as you can.  Find one that feels good and then go buy it.

I love my Gold Hunter 3.5". I don't think they still make them though.

I like my Maxus. 3.5 inch chamber and it will feed ultra light 2 1/2" flawlessly.
