Hello everyone. I am brand new to the site, as well as the world of guns. I finally went out and bought myself a Windham Arms AR-15, Remington 870 Tactical, Sig P226, and inherited a Breda 12-ga semi-auto and old J. Steven's Model 17 .22 Crack Shot. Yeah, I've been having NON-stop fun!
So here is my question: I am quite handy when it comes to mechanics, and have no problem disassembling and reassembling guns. I took apart my old Breda, and cleaned it up with no problems. Once the cob webs were removed, I took it out back to put some target load through it. However, I cannot get the weapon to cycle properly. I have checked and rechecked the gun for the obvious, cleaned and recleaned hoping for a smoother action, but the bolt will not cycle properly. Is this gun truly a semi-auto or is a semi-auto appearance, actually a pump? http://www.williamjhamilton.co.uk/images/Stock/Photos%20070909/Breda%20semi-auto.jpg That is the best picture I have of the gun. Unfortunately, I am still in the process of determining the name. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Iceman |

Ok, I found the problem. The gun cycles properly, but the buffer spring only really works when I throw 00 buck/slugs through it. But it makes sense; a gun from the 60s with a spring that hasn't been compressed since then, and the powerful shells used then compared to the "low recoil" ones of today, it's no wonder that a more powerful load would cycle it fully. So now, I can say that I am the proud owner of a fucntioning semi-auto shotgun! The collection grows....

I think that is a similiar gun to the Franchi 48AL. In order to get it to work with light loads the governor ring has to be in the right position.
They are long recoil operated like the Browning A-5. The governor ring will be behind the bronze friction ring on the mag tube. Beveled side forward for heavy loads, rearward for light loads. Go to shotgunworld to the Franchi section. You'll find alot of info there. |
