I am in the market for a 870 express tactical and got to handle a new one today.  I immediately noticed that the entire trigger group assembly housing had some side to side play with the receiver and that there was some gap between the receiver and trigger housing that seemed to be causing it.  Up and down I did not feel any play, but side to side it just seemed like the guard wasn't quite wide enough to prevent alot of movement (maybe 1/32).  Is this normal for the plastic trigger guard?

I don't seem to remember there being any noticeable movement on the old wingmasters with the metal trigger guard.

Nope, not normal. I have a few 870's with the polymer trigger guard and none have any play. I'll say I have never seen one anyway. In my experience my polymer guards actually fit tighter than the 2 mettal one I also have. Others may differ.
