Has anyone dealt with Remington's customer service? I recently purchased an 870 Express Super Mag camo and the shell fails to extract every few rounds. It's like it is getting stuck in the chamber, and sometimes I gotta really rip the pump hard to get it to extract. The other thing is this has the realtree camo finish and it's already flaking off. I always thought the Remington 870 was overall a better gun than the Mossberg, but now I am thinking I should have got the Mossberg.
I plan to call them tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone has deal with their CS lately. And before anyone suggests, I did google for extraction issues and polished the chamber; no difference. |
| I have a tried a bunch of different ammo, some ammo I have had for years, other I bought new. It doesn't happen every time, but every now and then it will still jam the pump. Does not seem to matter what brand ammo I shoot but I tried various loads from Remington, Winchester, and Federal. |

Have you checked the forend nut? Mine was loose from the factory and was causing lots of jams when trying to eject shells. Yup, it's tight. After the intial problems I cleaned and lubricated it and took it out but same problem. Contacted Remington today. They are sending me a new barrel. Don't think it will fix the cycling issues, but it will address the flaking camo finish. Although it's on backorder so i'd be surprised if I see it before Christmas 2012. |

ive owned a moss 500 and a rem 870... the 870 by far was a better gun. I thought that once as well, but the past 2 Remington shotguns have proved it wrong. Apparently they do not care about the quality of the 870 Express anymore. Just by doing a Google search you can find a ton of other people that have had the same problem. It's too bad. My next shotgun purchase will be a Mossberg. |

Rough chambers in the 870 Express series is not uncommon. to add...I watched few youtube videos today about cleaning shotgun barrels...want to learn new tricks... I found a few where the user put 000 and 0000 steel wool on a cleaing brush, attached to cleaning shaft, then hooked up to a drill...Honing the bore if you will. They used Hoppes 9 as a lub and to prevent lead dust. Slow speed (rpm) and working it up and down the full bore. I'm writing this because the chamber area may need a little honing to smooth out the extraction. Just a guess...hope you get things right. I love my 870's. |

The directions said to do this to the chamber only not the entire barrel, so I did. It made no difference for my gun. Fact is, it is a brand new gun and I should not have to do anything to it to get it to run right out of the box. It may not be the chamber but something in the bolt/block assembly as well but I really am not sure. They are sending me a new barrel. If that does not fix it I will send them the gun with a note instructing them NOT to send it back to me, and chock it up as a lesson learned. |

Agree...you should not have to hone the chamber...
I went back and reread your OP...sounds to me like the bolt is not fully unlocking after you fire...getting caught up somewhere inside. Yes, I would be frustrated by this being a new gun. being an 870 fan, I would react no differently if this happened to me and a new xxx brand. If I were to proceed with a fix, I'd look for wear marks on the bolt assembly or locking block...looking on each part and on the inside of the gun. Trying to see what's hanging up. Also, are the rails catching on something...shell latch issue? I'm sure you have found a schematic but I'll post a link here.Rem 870 Schematic I do wish you luck and hope it's made right. ETA - I spent about 30 minutes reading about 870 extraction problems. Seems like there is an issue with a few, and deals with newer ones. Google 870 extraction problems and you may find some direction. |

I recently bought a 870 tactical... I took it out of the box when i got home and the front dovtail sight fell out of the body of the sight, called em they sent me a new sight.... I told em it wouldnt work the body was the part messed up, but once i got that and it was still loose called em back and now there sending me a whole new barrel. I havent got it yet but I just got it delt with last friday so we'll see.
Honsetly so far i though the customer service was great it only took about 2 min of waiting to get through on both calls and it was pretty mush no questions asked... When i was at the store i held both the 870 and the mossberg and I know the mossberg is a good gun but it just felt cheap to me when i held it. The 870 felt like a way more solid gun. But ive only put 25 rounds though it so i guess time will tell. |
| I wanted to hop on the 870 train, so I bought 2 early last year. Both had the same problem you are describing. I honed the chambers and had to polish the shit out of the barrel tang and tops and bottoms of the slide bars. I fixed both of them this way. I honestly wanted to wrap them both around a tree. I kept one and they are the last Remington 870s that I will buy without shooting first. Mossberg for this guy from now on, I learned my lesson. There is no reason for a shotgun to not be able to shoot the cheap birdshot from wal mart. |
