I just picked up a new  Stevens 311 Model H.
I noticed when you open the barrel breech, the lock lever swings back into the locked position preventing you from closing the barrel / breech unless you actuate the lock lever.

This is not the case with my other Stevens side by side. (Model A)
With my older Stevens once you open the barrel breech you can close it without throwing the lever. It stays in the open position until the barrel breech is closed.

Is it broken or is it a variation change?
Thanks

Good question. Tag for info.

My 311A locks in the open position, until you snap the barrels shut.

My Franchi O/U also locks in the open position.

I have a 311R.  Mine locks open most of the time, but sometimes does not. It is disconcerting to try to close it and it hits the lock.  I think there is a notch on mine that needs to be touched up with a file on mine, but I have not attempted that yet.  Mine is pretty late production and also needs to be adjusted so it stays open farther as the spring pushes it to where the shells aren't easily inserted without physically pushing it open against the spring.  I have seen a video online as to how to correct the latter, but that's a rainy day project that I have been reluctant to to attempt so far.  I'm tagging this thread also to see if someone knows if it's a part issue or there is a fix.
