My brother-in-law is looking to get rid of his 870 Wingmaster and he asked me if I could find out how much it was worth. It was manufactured sometime in the mid-80s, it's a 12 gauge and has a modified choke barrel. The gun is in very good-excellent condition. Not sure of barrel length, 28" I believe. I don't need the gun or I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I quickly scanned Gunbroker for closed auctions on 870 Wingmasters and I saw a few that sold for less than $300. I think my BIL is under the assumption that it's worth a bit more, but one thing that there's no shortage of is 870s. What would be a good price to start at for sale locally? |

870's are a dime a dozen. it doesn't matter what condition or specs it has, unless you can prove a famous person rubbed their naughty bits on it, it wont be worth much of anything. +1. Being made continually for the past 60 or so years decreases value somewhat. |

Now a days if its EXACTLY how I want it I may pay upwards of $250-300 depending on the model. But if I have to do a single thing to it, no way I am paying over $150 for a used American pump gun. |

And there's no way anyone in their right mind would sell you a Wingmaster in the condition that the OP describes for $150. OP, I'd say $250-$300. The $50 difference depending on condition. I'd paid $180 for mine, but the finish is rough. |

I would pay $3-400 for a Model 12, depending on condition. For an actually nice Model 12 you'd be looking at a good bit more. But then they haven't been made for almost 50 years. |

You know you are right. I should have caveated my statement fairly deeply. No way I am paying over $150 for a used still in production hunting shotgun made in the USA. I bought my Winchester 1300 28 inch barrel gun for $120 at a gun store. |

Or is it the feeling that old Wingmasters are better then new Wingmasters? Just trying to understand. Actually here is the ad. Its rare that I would ever buy a used gun for what i could buy a new one for unless there was a really good reason. Like a series 70 colt or something like that. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n262/poohbigb/IMG.jpg That is not a Wingmaster. That 870 in the ad is an 870 Express. New Wingmasters are double that price. Big difference between a Wingmaster and Express. |
