What are some of ARFCOM's favorite slugs for deer hunting?
I have been thinking of picking up a couple of boxes of; Remington's Buckhammer 1 1/4oz sabot slugs Federal's Power Shok 1oz sabot slugs I would like to see which one shoots better from my Mossberg 835 w/ a rifled barrel. What are some other brands do you guys use? (for deer hunting) |

What are some other brands do you guys use? (for deer hunting) When I was a a Illinois resident I used Lightfields. I had great results out of a winchester 1300 with a slug barrel. I have used both the 3" hybred elite and 2 3/4" hybred exp. I quit using the 3" because i couldn't justify the extra shoulder pain at sight-in time to myself considering most of my deer killed were 100yds or closer. My father uses them in his remington 1100 still and he is bringing home a deer every year. I have also used the winchester supreme slugs and they worked well. So, there are plenty of ood options for sure. |

Thanks guys, I ordered some Buckhammers last night. Will be trying them some time next week. I also plan on trying the Winchester and lightfield loads as suggested after i get payed again. (and my shoulder recovers |

Small sidetrack. My Benelli shoots 1 ounce winchester 2 3/4" slugs 2 1/2" high at 25 yards with my elevation maxed down. Can anyone recommend a slug that may shoot more to point of aim elevation wise? Smoothbore or rifled barrel? I'm guessing smoothbore, but the only way to really find out is to try different rifled slugs to find out what shoots to your POA. |
