I constantly see folks with nylon (not plastic) shotgun shell holders on the side of their receivers, but i cant find anything anywhere. Any sources?

Mesa Tactical makes one or there is a website that shows you how to make your own.

If adhesive is holding the shell carrier to the side of the receiver, how durable is it?  I would be worried that here in AZ if I left it in my car the adhesive would  come loose.

I also use the esstac shotgun cards from SKD. I havent had any issues with heat here in Arizona. I've left it in the truck and its been out in the desert. I used velcro from Walmart, not sure what strength or quality it was.

I switched over all of my Mesa Tactical side saddle to Esstac and never looked back. I even use them for 20ga on my wifes shotgun.

Well, the Remington MCS uses the 3GG carrier, and that goes to some rather warm places.
3GG is in Arizon IIRC, and heavily used in 3 gun games.
Vang also uses an adhesive backed carrier that secures to a mounting plate rather than directly to the receiver.
