"Mossberg 500 Chainsaw Pump 18.5 Inch Barrel Matte Black with Pistol Grip Removable Forend Handle/Grip. Mossberg® has one of the most unusual-looking shotguns to come out in quite a while with the Mossberg® 500 Chainsaw. Built around the classic Mossberg@reg 500 action, the Chainsaw is a pistol-grip pump-action shotgun with no shoulder stock. While guns like this are desirable for home defense, they've a reputation as hard to control while firing. The Mossberg@reg solution is to attach a wrap-around chainsaw-style hand grip to the pump. Intended to be fired from the hip, this top handle allows the user to cycle the action while simultaneously maintaining leverage above the gun to help tame muzzle rise. In addition to the chainsaw-style grip, which can be easily removed, the Mossberg® 500 Chainsaw has a stand-off barrel that can be used to breech doors and three rails that can mount accessories."

Ya know, I like mossberg.  I have a nice 500 that I use for HD and 3 Gun.  I like their shotguns in a can deal they were doing.

But this....this reminds me of those old Tech-9 ads that talked about how their plastic didn't retain fingerprints.

"Intended to be fired from the hip"?   sheesh....

shooting from this hip sounds good to me last time I shot a pistol grip shotgun it busted my lip open because I was trying to aim it..... granted my friend had loaded 3" magnum rounds WITHOUT telling me

If it's only function was to breach doors I think it would be ideal.

eta. I do think it looks like crap though.

The only thing I would want attached to a chainsaw grip is a "mini-gun" like the one Arnold used in one of the Terminator movies.

looks silly to me and just encouraging the people that believe you don't have to actually AIM a shotgun.

A (I say this lightly) 'solution' looking for a problem?

Yeah.  The only somewhat realistic purpose I can think of would be breaching...but even then it's dumb.  We're in a vicious circle.   We'll start to see stupid advertising and be back to another AW ban because the anti's can use something useless like this and capture the attention of unbiased people.  If we think it's dumb....a non-gun owner but non-anti will probably be pushed to the side of the anti's.

The mrs. fired my SPAS from the hip once...once

I agree that it seems to have no practical purpose. the folks that buy a gun because it looks "neat" will probably scarf them up, kind of like when I bought the SPAS those many years ago.
