So I went to the local fun store today and swapped off an old Norinco riot gun for a police trade-in Winchester Defender.  Now we had Winchester 1200 trench guns back when I was in the Marines in the late 80's and to be honest, I despised the damn things!  We were originally trained on Mossberg M-590s and my only experience prior to the Marines was my dad's old Model 12.  I know I wasn't alone in despising the fact that the pump seemed to unlock and blow back out of our hands when they were fired and I hated that feature.  To this day I have always been a Mossberg and Remington fan but I figured I'd give the Winchester another try and made the swap.
Being a cop gun, the internals were pretty good shape mechanically. Being a cop gun, it had the numerous dings and scratches as well as a missing buttplate.  Being a cop gun also, it was FILTHYinside!  I think I spent 2-3 hours and about half a bottle of Hoppe's #9 getting the crud out.  I also detail stripped it and found that putting the hammer back in was a PITA trying to get the spring legs to line up right while pressing the hammer down and lining up the pin correctly was NOT a fun task! But it did clean up pretty well and I found a buttplate from Brownell's and got that on order.  Never ground down a buttplate before but I guess there's a first time for everything (sort of like detail stripping that damned trigger group was) so I'll give that a try.  Haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'm hoping to get past the bias I have against them that I carried over from my M-1200 trench gun days.

its a winchester defender 1300 right? (not aware of the 1200 defender) i own one,  its a good gun, and the speed pump takes some a few shots to get use to.  get one of those cheap 12 ga 100 round boxes at wal mart and break it in nice and proper.
