I asked this in the ar forum of the ar, now I'd like to hear the opinions for a shotgun. If you could only have one shotgun for multiple applications how would you set it up? I shoot a decent amount of trap and just plain clay shooting with the guys, but also would like my 12ga to serve double duty as a hd/tacticle shotgun. what would your set-up (barrel, sights, stocks, etc)be?

Thanks
Borbski

I would use the Remington 870 and two barrels. One barrel, 18 inch bead sight, home defense. The other barrel a longer vent rib design using the Remchoke inserts to adjust the shot patter for the needed distance.

Side saddle to carry extra shells and a good recoil pad on the stock.

Everything else added to the shotgun is just extra weight.

I think I have less or around 400.00 total with evrything you see It may be a bit more now I don't know but you can search for what you will add and decide what adds up cheaper yourself between an 870 remy or a mossy 500 either will serve you well. this is a mossberg 500 field combo with choke tubes vent rib barrel a rifled slug barrel and I bought the 18 1/2 inch barrel seperate and added the mossy metal heatshield for looks.  I have an 870 also I like them both . the mossy has a matching wood buttstock not in the pic

Remington 870 with an 20" barrel, imp cyl choke and a 2 shot extension.

Side saddle or shell holder on the stock for 4-6 extra rounds

Surefire dedicated forend or a quality light mounted to the barrel/mag extension.

And tons of ammo to train with.

What he said.  Nothing you can't do with that one.

I don't think you're going to be shooting (hitting) too much trap or sporting clays with that, but its just about perfect.

I like the 2-barrel idea and think I'd go with a 18-inch IC barrel with the XS sights (J.D. sells these, I don't have one yet, but love the idea and am hoping to get one soon) and a 26-inch VR barrel with Rem Choke.

My multi tool is a mav88. i had cut down to a 21in barrel  and threaded for chokes, 13 lop stock same overall lenght as a 20in 870 with a standard stock. I shoot clays and rabbits with it all the time and even throw some slugs down range. I have a real problem trying to shoot clays with my 18" CB 590a1. Not so much the brand of shotgun as it is the setup

24 inch rib barrel nova or 870, you can set it up for 3 gun heavy metal, hunt, shoot trap/clays, or whatever. being a pump you can shoot darn near anything thru it.
