| I'm thinking about replacing the front bead on my Winchester Defender. From what I've found, it appears that Win. uses 3-56 threads. I'm not sure what shank length I need, but the bigger question is what size bead I should get. The factory one seems really small to me, plus it isn't very round, it has more of a flattened look to it. I was thinking about a .130 bead? Does that sound about normal? |

.130" is a nice size for a front bead. Most factory brass or silver bead are near this diameter. Thanks, I'll probably go with that then. And it will be the right size if I ever decide to epoxy an XS Big Dot over top of it. Anything I should know prior to swapping it out? Should I use some heat to help loosen the factory bead, or just grab it with some vise-grips? |

The factory bead will probably un-screw with pliers. Usually they are not all that tight. I like to add a drop of blue loctite when installing a new bead.
No vent rib on this gun, right? If thats true the bead hole probably goes all the way through the barrel and your new bead's shank may be long enough to protrude into the bore. If thats the case you can go inside the bore with a small sanding drum or round file and cut the new bead shank down to match the bore (do this after installing the new bead) |
