I just bought a new remington 870 express with the camo stock and forearm, if i change to a wood stock set will i have to shorten the forearm. thanks for any help.

To add a 6 rnd side saddle yes, otherwise not that i know.

Make sure you get the right length stock bolt, washer, and bearing plate when you switch to a wood stock.

Funny, I had the wooden stock and went to the camo.

I am not sure of the Question?  Shorten the forend for what?  Is this a tactical type weapon?  If so then you would want to add the LE furniture and that forend does not need any adjustment and allows you to use any side saddle.   If this is a sporting weapon then why would you want to shorten the forend?

the hard wood P sets are hard to find in new condition but are out there.   Gun smith take off stocks are getting rare as Remington discontinued models with hard wood furniture.   If you go with the laminated set then yes, if you want to add a side saddle you have a forend issue but that can be resolved by installing a 4 rd saddle.
